how hard did carlos monzon punch?

i've always felt that he's a hard puncher. looking at tapes of his and he often ko'd a guy flat out.

 

He hit a lot harder before arthritis took it's toll. Ask Nino Benvenuti, Tom Bogs and Jean-Claude Bouttier.

 

Monzon was a hard puncher, but he did not have devastating one punch KO power. Generally Monzon put his shots together for his KO's.

Still, any single shot by Monzon could hurt anyone sufficiently that a follow up barrage put the guy down. Nobody could afford to suck up shots from Monzon.

 

i wasn't aware that monzon had arthritis. and yes, he completely beat down benvenuti. i felt nino pulled out too quickly though.

 

i agree. his physical strength was also phenomenal. he bullied everybody around the ring.

I think the bullet his bird put in his shoulder didn't help matters.

My answer would be "hard enough to defend the title 14 times."

 

He also had a bullet lodged in his left shoulder I think from 1973 onwards when his wife shot him.

More ethan hard enough ...

 

Hard enough to stop 59 of his opponents in an 87 win career. I'd say he hit pretty hard, and it doesn't really matter if it was one punch power or an accumulation-----------it's still a KO.

All I know is, if I was destined to be KO'ed, I'd much rather it be by that one punch you don't see coming than being battered over the course of several rounds.

Were a result of battering his opponents into submission.

If you were hurt, you couldn't come back against Carlos, as he was just
too big and too strong for his Middleweight opponents.

Many of his late-1960 fights in Argentina, were fought at 165+ lbs.

 

Thank you! People too obsessed with 1 punch kayo power. If the guy is outta their then the fighter who delivered their ko did their job and robbed the judges of giving them a chance to rob them. Accumulation punching is more dangerous anyday. Rather be taken out in 2 by Foreman than succumb a 12-15 rd beating by Frazier anyday.
