change from southpaw to orthodox? what is the time frame needed to make the complete transformation and what does one have to do to change?
If I was aboxer I would try to come up with a style and could switch between southpaw and orthodox whenever I wanted and be equally as good as both so I could confuse my opponents up all the time, also I would know many different styles to a perfection so i can potshot, brawl or just box when I have to. Would be awesome if a fighter actually could do all that.
It involves shifting your lead foot to the back and vice versa with your hand placement. The switch should take all of 1 second.
It all depends on your balance and if you've ambidextrous. Switch hitters like Ward or Witter obviously do it with ease, many orthodox types will take years to change over and relearn if they ever can. Even the likes of Mayweather and Morales clearly drop down a level when they switch stances. Andre Ward is possibly the best switcher I can think of and its down to his balance in either stance
Unless you are a natural switch hitter. There is no reason to switch from orthodox to southpaw or visa versa. There is a reason you throw a ball, swing a bat or kick a ball. The same way. Week side in the front and strong side in the back. The motion is allways the same. You bring your strong side across to the front. This is the most effective way to do these things as well as throwing a punch. You can argue that switching "mixes things up", or gives you a really strong jab and hook. What it dose unless you are a natural switch hitter is make you a one handed boxer.
