How high do you rank Joe Louis H2H at heavyweight?

I agree except for spinks,holmes And shavers. Liston And lewis are toss up

 

He beats them all aside from perhaps Ali. No hwt fighter matches Louis overall abilities in the ring.

This is why he is pretty much universally rated as No 1 or No 2 all time hwt champion.

Joe louis is rated 2 cause his legacy, defences And longevity not cause his h2h status against all time greats from different eras

 

I rank him very highly. Definitely top 10

 

He's the only pre war fighter I have in my top 10 but his punching technique hasn't been bettered.
I'd only place Ali, Lewis and Foreman with any sort of confidence and maybe Tyson's head and lateral movement would give shufflin' Joe problems but that's all.

Like Ali I only envision him losing to 1 great and that is Ali himself therefore he gets the nod above Louis.

The only better pick is Ali, and I think Louis takes him.

 

Top 10. My only real concern about Louis is against the big, skilled heavies whom outweigh him by 30,40 pounds.

Granted, there haven't been that many (thinking Bowe, Lewis, Klitshcko's here) but still. Most of the consensus top-10 guys would give him trouble, but that's because they are the elite. It goes without saying.

 

Fully agree with this. Frazier would have given him a war but the Bomber would have won.

 

I rate him number one.

Imagine a heavyweight as accurate and sharp as Mayweather, that can hit like Foreman.

I can't give him an exact rating, and frankly I don't think any such rating should ever be given to any fighter. Head to head is very subjective and impossible to measure. But having said that I think Joe Louis should be given a fair chance to beat most or all heavyweights. His skills speak for themselves and have been demonstrated on film against men of all varying styles, talents and physical descriptions. He absolutely demolished large heavys who were as big or bigger than even some of the giants who fill the top 10 today.. He handled tricksters and slicksters alike. He outgunned big punchers and outlasted the most durable of survivors as well.. He also went 15 rounds - something that no man has done in about 30 years.

 

If you pinned me down Id say top three or four at worst.
