for me he is top 10 @ CW, although that is not a major accomplishment based upon the length of its existance....I felt it was slightly disappointing, only in the fact that I think he had the tools to be better than that and that he could have rivaled Holyfield and surpassed Qawi...but perhaps my excpectations were to high?
He didn't do much at cruiserweight because he moved up to HW quickly, but he did beat the recognized champion Mormeck. I'd rate him close to Alfred Cole.
He did what had to be done to be the man in the context of the division he was fighting in.So in that sense you can't really fault it. As far as judging it on it's own merits i don't think he really did much to be honest.one or two passable euro title scalps like Fragomeni and then beats Mormeck, who was a decent hard working fighter at his best, but had looked on the decline by the time Haye beat him The fight with Enzo Mac was a big domestic fight and a classic blowout, but lets face it...enzo was pretty crap. That's it.Not much substance there and plenty fighters have beaten more good fighters without even getting to a first title or even winning one in tougher divisions. At cruiser i'd like him to have hung around longer to get a better gauge of him.Holy and Qawi are out in front of everyone, then Haye would be in a group with De Leon, Norris, Wamba, Jirov, Toney, Juan Carlos Gomez and a few others.nearer the top for head to head rather than achievements.
I like David and think he was an excellent cruiser and pretty good heavyweight. But his reign? He had one title defence of any title, and it was Enzo Mac. What's there to rate, really? A very good overall career, but he had two title fights at CW. What are you going to say?
