I was there the night Julian got stopped by Quincy Taylor losing his WBC Middleweight belt. After the fight both guys praised each other power. I was surprised what nice guys they both were . Id know Quincy a while so really knew he was a good guy

Whatever happened to Taylor after that fight. He dropped the title in his next fight and then only had a couple of fights sporadically the rest of his career. Injuries?

Quincy defended against Keith Holmes, managed by Don King's step son Carl & was robbed by them & Richard Steele (King's fav ref). Holmes caught Quincy & caused a flash knockdown. He was up & ready to go & Holmes flailed away madly but landing nothing of consequence. In stepped Steele & stopped the fight. I thought, usually quiet trainer Curtis Cokes, was going to charge Steel & take his head off. Steele just gave that toothless leery grin. He knew what he'd done alright. Also on that bill was B Hop he said to Quincy " Man you were robbed, dont let it get you down you & me gotta get it on after I deal with Holmes for you" Bhop did beat Holmes but sadly Quincy let Don King sign him up promising him a rematch with Holmes that never materialised. He moved from Dallas to Vegas & we lost touch he only had one fight after. I dont know where he is now. Sad he's a great guy

The timeline is that Keith Holmes beat Taylor and Taylor didn’t fight for 2 years. He had one fight and then was dormant for 3 more years.

Holmes beat Taylor in 1996. Hopkins beat Holmes in 2001. So by that time Taylor was far out of the picture — his 2001 fight (final one of his career) actually didn’t come until a couple months after Hopkins-Holmes.

It doesn’t match the timeline in your post.

If Taylor signed with Don King after the Holmes fight, there’s not a single fight on his resume to show for it. He basically retired.

And how was a rematch with Holmes supposed to materialize if Taylor didn’t fight?

Furthermore, a live account of the Holmes-Taylor fight from the Baltimore Sun didn’t question the stoppage. After the knockdown, Holmes landed 11 unanswered punches culminating with a big left hook that brought on the stoppage — and it the knockdown wasn’t described as a flash knockdown.

If you get knocked down and you’re fine, why let a guy land 11 unanswered punches? Why not throw one back? Or make him miss?

Per Holmes, Steele told them before the fight that if either got in trouble and wasn’t fighting back he’d stop it. As he should. Fighters who aren’t hurt fight back. Holmes also expressed surprise that Taylor got up at all from the knockdown from a right hand.

    https://www.baltimoresun.com/news/bs-xpm-1996-03-17-1996077162-story.html

Taylor did not protest the decision and said, ‘I just got hit with a real good punch.”

This wasn’t a crooked fight. He got legit stopped.

Sounds like you’re a bit biased because you know the guy.

I was at the fight right on the apron for the fight saw it all .
Another part to the story was Quincy was pushing for a title shot a long time but kept getting the brush off. Well he was fighting in Dallas at a Black Tie Charity event. I went to his changing room & saw he was limping bad & Curtis was reading the riot act. Apparantly Quincy was playing hoops with the troubled teen & screwed up his A/C ligament n his knee. Watch the fight with Julian Jackson he beat him with a torn a/c note the big brace. Jose Suliaman was at the fight in Dallas & saw the brace. Whatdya know Quincy gets offered a title shot but it doesnt give him time to get surgery. His knee was still not 100 % when he fought Holmes either

My sentiments exactly: a non-ATG with ATG power.

    So:

    Guy wants title shot.

    Guy gets title shot.

But wait, he should have been given it later? Hey if he got himself injured doing something his trainer didn’t want him to do, that’s a case of too bad.

And before the Otis Grant win, he’s basically a guy with three losses in three step-up fights. He got his title shot when it was deserved.

I have no problem with Quincy. I just don’t think this is a case of him somehow getting screwed over to get Keith Holmes of all people to the top.

Holmes was Don King's stepsons fighter King's words were
"stick with me Quincy I'll get you a rematch"!! Yeah right never got him a fight
I only remember him having one fight one out of the blue against an unbeaten fighter 20-0 or so Fred Ward I think
Supposed to be a step up fight for Ward Quincy knocked him out

Find it hard to believe Quincy was back in the gym for 2 years training waiting for a fight that never came, yet never sued (contracts would stipulate that the promoter has to get you X fights per year) or mentioned it to a reporter or anything like that.

His manager would have also been raising hell for not living up to a contract.

Carl King was the manager of record for tons of King fighters. It’s not like Holmes was some kind of pet project for him.

If he had wanted to fight and was fit (as in not injured, in shape, etc., he would have fought).
