How high do you rate prime Golovkin?

GGG was and is an overhyped Soviet piece of feces, but he had the best jab in the business under Kovalev. I'm a fan of his jab style. He would jab with his opponent and use his longer each to be dominate and beat his opponent to the punch.
Other than his beautiful jab he practiced thousands of times, Golovkin is a potato farming, pit toilet crapping, Soviet bloc hype job.

You know people in classic are stuck in time.. I loved the fab 4, but prime GGG would have been 1 of 5 had he been in that era. I fail to see how he wouldn’t have knocked Hearns out :)

When have people in classic say that GGG isn't a top 50 h2h middleweight?

He went 0-2-1 in his major rivalry with Canelo.

Pretty highly, because nobody is knocking him out.

None of this makes sense to me. GGG knocked Lemieux out. Was he supposed to gouge his eyes out? Who didn't he fight at middleweight? He fought all the top guys.

 Maybe you forgot that Canelo fought Khan, 'beefy' and a bunch of no hopers ...

For me it's difficult to gauge just how good he was, because of the level of competition he faced. Fact is 160 during his reign was weak, guys early on ducked him and once he was on top there really wasn't anybody who was that good. Jacobs was decent but nothing special just the best of an ordinary bunch of middleweights.

Canelo was the best he faced and really the only great fighter he faced and the fights were close and controversial. I personally had the first fight a draw, though if you had to give it to anyone it was GGG, the 2nd fight I had Canelo clearly winning. So GGG couldn't conclusively beat the only great fighter he ever faced, but lets be honest, Canelo aged him out, waiting til GGG looked vulnerable.

Unlike Hopkins, Golovkin never moved up, never tested himself at a higher weight, or tried to look for bigger names and bigger fights in other divisions. I would of liked to have seen him fight Froch that would of been a war, imagine where he would stand had he blasted out Froch early? So we are just left with his middleweight legacy which to be fair his dominance alone makes him for me a great middleweight but he just doesn't have the resume to rank that highly, definitely not above guys like Robinson, Hagler, Monzon or Hopkins.

As for his skills? Great jab, great chin, great power, killer to the body. I wouldn't favour many if any to slug it out with him, but he could be out boxed, Canelo showed that at times, against a more active, mover, boxer I could see him drop a decision. We never saw a prime GGG vs an elite out boxer. So again maybe he was a H2H monster or maybe he was prone to being out boxed, I have too many unanswered questions over his true ability. Which is a shame, I feel he could of done more, but a lot of that was out of his control with Canelo delaying the fight until he wasn't prime and Sturm ducking him.

I didn't forget as I mentioned Khan along with many others, the only difference being Canelo also fought better opponents in between those.

Based on? He didn't fight anyone special to claim this. I guess Canelo but Canelo isn't a murderous puncher.

Your first mistake is actually believing the judges know how to competently score fights.
