How high Would Barker Beating Martinez rank in upsets by british fighters?

Regardless of betting odds, I'm looking at the fighters and the perception of pundits at the time.

Haven't read many reports but haven't heard anyone thinking Barker will win, and betting odds reflect the perception of the public.

 

the bookies had him at 6-1 and have barker at 16-1.

who is giving barker a shot nobody.

whatever the difference between curry & martinez, theres a great difference between honey and barker and thats why its a bigger upset.

Honeys mandatory spot was interesting. To get it he beat the previous WBC #1 Horace Shufford who had got that spot by a process of elimination in that he was the only top welterweight who hadn't been beaten by either Curry, McCrory, or both!!

But I don't think anyone could say Honeyghan wasn't worth a title challenger. His eliminator was billed as such at the time unlike these days where guys just get a shot without doing too much.
