Rski if you look at my post from 3:29am yesterday you'll see I pretty much say the same thing. He didn't commit at times. As it is, he didn't take those guys out and I make a slight deduction for it but Lewis was a huge puncher no doubt.

Evander dropped Mercer with a sneaky left hook to the head actually, a punch Lewis wasn't very proficient at being so right hand dominant.

I agree on the last part. Given the criticism other all time greats get, this is child's play. Huge overreactions here.

I stand corrected thanks you Mongoose. It was a short left to jaw. Been long time since I saw fight. Thanks

Evander dropping Ray with a shot to the jaw actually strengthens your argument.

apologies for missing your post. I agree that not taking those guys out does slightly diminish his greatness. He is definitely great but taking Holy out in devastating fashion would have been nice for his legacy.

It is quite a contradiction. I rate him far higher of a puncher than you do. I think he was a bigger single shot hitter than Louis. I think he crushed guys your supposed to KO cleaner, faster and with less volume of punchers than other fighters who would be considered big punchers and I don't agree that he did not budge Mercer or Tua but hurt them enough to make them cautious .. I consider him a far, far bigger puncher than Holyfield. I also stand by my statement that he did not land his best shots against Evander. Other than that it's pretty much identical.

Lennox was tremendous hitter and for someone so big he was able to execute with tremendous technique and speed if I were asked how high I rate Lewis as a puncher I think about certain tremendous punches back through his career -the first right hand that put Ruddock down was an absolute beauty just a tremendous shot Ruddock did very well to even get up after that one it was a great punch, so fast too.
The first left hook out of his defensive ball against Bruno that got Bruno going - I just cannot fathom how Bruno was ever able to absorb that and still be standing??
The right hand on the 3rd knockdown of Michael Grant I think it was - as perfect a punch as it is possible to throw?
Some of the uppercuts (and one in particular) against Vitali was just BRUTAL!!?
The roundhouse right hand knockout of Rahman was absolutely scintillating!! One of the best one-punch-knockouts in heavyweight title history!
The Botha finish was brutal aswell and he was a tough old boy?
So yeah there are some unforgettable punches in his career, and so and so may have thought Morrison hit him harder and so and so may have said Dennis Andries hit him harder in 16oz gloves and through headgear but Lewis could be BOOM time when he wanted to take you out in style he could

-You have provided contradictions in this post but not the previous.

-I don't see it. In addition to his combination punching, Louis demonstrated a killer single shot right hand against Braddock and Uzcudon(the McCall of his day).

-In some instances he did and in some he didn't. Wilson took out Briggs quicker and cleaner, Oleg scored a comparable clean KO over Rahman. McCline dropped Grant with one clean left hook and stopped him quicker, Ruddock KOed Jackson quicker and cleaner..etc.

-There is absolutely nothing cautious about Mercer's performance against Lewis. Tua was being his usual turtle self for sure though.

-He has a bigger right hand than Evander, but probably not as good a left hook. Holyfield dropped Mercer, Moorer, Tyson, Cooper, and Bowe with the left.

-He caught Holyfield with his vaunted right uppercut several times flush. It's caught on camera, they replay it in slow motion, it happened. He also hit him with his big right cross.

There are even stills that show these punches landing. I don't see how one can deny this.

It still amazes me that Toney was able to not only beat Holyfield, but stop him. Toney was basically a puffed-up middleweight with so-so heavyweight power, and even though Holyfield was washed up, he was still tough. But he sure broke Holyfield down to the body.

I still believe these people to be nothing more than haters, because I can't believe that people could call themselves fight fans a be so stupid. The fact is if Lewis respected a guy he would come up with a game plan and stick to it. Why would he need to play into Holyfields hands and stand toe to toe with him when he knows he can outbox the guy easily?

What people are actually claiming is Lewis is lacking in some respects because he didn't KO everyone he fought. Would these critics like to tell us of a Heavyweight who did?

****, or get off the pot as they say.

So you make If's and's and But's for Lewis, essentially excusing his defeats yet cling to Tyson's loss to Douglas as though it sums up his entire career. That's the worst double standard I've seen in a while, and no one will take you seriously with this kind of reasoning.

I never said he did not hit Evander, I wrote that he was unable to tee off based on his over all style .. So you are saying that Holyfield , Wilson, Oleg, McCline and Ruddock hit as hard as Lewis on a consistent basis ? What heavyweights do you rate as harder punchers than Lewis? BTW< who knocked out the more durable guys like Mercer ( pre-40 ) , Marovic, Tua or McCall ?

Your exact words were "did not land his best shots", this has been disproven.

I don't know but I've shown your claim that he "crushed guys your supposed to KO cleaner, faster and with less volume of punchers than other fighters who would be considered big punchers " to be false.

I've already listed Louis, he's the HW king of knocking out and dropping durable fighters that were never hurt like that before. Max Baer, Galento, Braddock, Uzcudun..etc.

You've done nothing but congratulate yourself. You say Lewis landed his best shots against Holyfield and I say he did not. And in addition, you did not answer the questions.

Did the fighters you mention hit harder than Lewis and who do you rate as a harder hitting heavyweight ? Why not back your argument up with definitive statements like an answer or two ? Let me repeat them so you cannot duck them again:

    1. Do you consider Holyfield, Oleg, McCline, Wilson and Ruddock to be harder hitters than Lewis ?

    2. Who did KO the "more durable " fighters you flippantly mentioned , in this case Mercer ( under forty ), Tua and McCall ? The answer is no one because these three all showed Chuvalo like chins through their careers. Do Foreman and Frazier fall into that category too ?

I've stayed my case on this thread and find it rediculous that people could label someone a hater because I put Lewis just a shade behind guys like Dempsey and Louis. I cited my examples and reasons for doing so and I acknowledge that Lewis is a tremendous puncher. No shame coming in behind two of the hardest hitters in history.
