How highly do you rate Benson Henderson? How does he do against prime BJ?

Bensons the real deal. Vicious striker, aggressive, good grappler. His problem is he often thinks his striking is better than he is. He gets too macho like Pettis I and Edgar I and II. This seemed to have changed against Diaz when he didn't risk brawling with a tough guy and get beat up ala Cerrone. Against Pettis II, he simply couldn't execute the grappling enough to avoid striking. Despite being finish with an armbar, the kicks to the body is what had him reaching for a takedown but on Pettis terms not his.

BJ isn't flawless but he is too good of a striker for Bendo. Bendo wouldn't be able to pin him down enough to win.

 

Henderson had a very impressive string of title defences against P4P ranked guys. He won't be going away anytime soon, he certainly has enough tools to beat Pettis despite the way their fights panned out.

You make it sound like having a "razor close" fight/s with Frankie Edgar and Gil Melendez is something Pettis should be ashamed of.

I know MMA Math doesn't work, but does this fight we just saw between Melendez and Diaz, shed any light on just how awesome BJ Penn was back then?

He treated Sanchez like he didn't even belong in the same organization as him, let alone octogan.

A further battle worn Diego, just took the #2 LW, and a guy who I thought beat Benson, to hell and back and almost finished him in the last round.

I just think it's interesting. I was one that felt the sport and LW division has greatly evolved in the past few years, but we just saw a guy who could not compete back then, compete and almost beat the #2 now.
