It was a shitty ****ing win. So was his win over Hoya, and his wins over Tito and Pavlik are overrated since he didn't beat them at their prime weights either.
I don't think the weight had that much to do with it tbh.... it was a technical match and Bernard showed he is the better boxer. It's not like he used his size advantage to bully him it was a chess match and Bernard played it better.
It's not one of his top 5 wins, that's for sure. A good win but Winky was fighting 10 lbs above his ideal weight.
I don't think too highly of it. Winky was a great fighter no doubt, and because of that he was able to have a few brief moments in the fight but he had NO business at 170.
Not that high because I don't think Winky was that great, both past their primes, and too high of a weight class.
personally I rate it high, but not as high as if it would have been at 160 obviously. winky arguably beat jermain taylor, and before that had beaten trinidad thoroughly, and shane mosley twice in a row. he was a world class fighter and bernard schooled him. that's more than just a good win. it's an even better win than pavlik in my eyes.
A good win, but not much more than his win over Oscar. Hopkins is a great fighter, but he is a master of fighting guys at the right time. i think that tarver is still his biggest win outside of middleweight. I think Pascal will be his biggest blunder.
It was a very good win. Winky is a difficult guy to fight and Bernard made it rough like he should. Winky talks a lot of trash, but he whined and whined all fight.
Good win. Not a great win as that wasn't Winky's weight and had not been a proven 170-pounder but it's just the way Hopkins won that was great. He toke Winky to school and is probably the only man to do so.
