Just a general question with his fight with Casa a couple of weeks away how highly do you rate JM Marquez, his accomplishments, his current standing in the game and how do you think he will be remembered?
I consider Juan Manuel Marquez the best fighter in the world. Unfortunately, he has been on the wrongside of some decisions, therefore his CV suffers. However, Juan has a chance to put that right with a win over Casamayor, a victory I expect considering the circumstances. Depending on how his career pans out, he'll never be held in as high esteem as Battera, Marquez, or Pacquiao. That is a shame.
Arguably, the best out there. I had him winning the second Pac fight. He must have had bad management along the way, because he's definitely in the class of the greats of his era. Assuming the higher weight doesn't adversely affect his chin, I expect him to outclass Casamayor.
I think he is a very good fighter but he has mental issues. In that second fight with Pacquiao he didn't even start fighting properly until he got knocked down. It's almost as if he didn't feel 'in the fight' until he got the obligatory knockdown out of the way. As soon as the knockdown came, he never looked in trouble once. So, he only really has himself to blame for not getting the victories of his resume.
a great featherweight of this era but not the greatest as what kellerman was suggesting. barrera, morales and pacquiao are all greater than him.
I for one predict the downfall of Pac. I dont think his career is headed in the right path. I think he looses to Oscar, then looses to Hatton, and gives Marquez a third fight in which hell loose aswell. Marquez probably has 3 fights left in him I would love to see him unify @135 by beating Casa, then winner of Guzman/Cambell and then take on PAC.
I disagree. No need to debate it though. The Casamayor fight will be taking place later this month, so we will get to see. Keep in mind, when Marquez wins by UD, I will be asking for a renewed opinion from you. Don't laugh at people's posts when they make perfect sense as mine did. You just didn't agree with the opinion, that's all.
There is no fight at 135 currently that Marquez cannot win. He will have problems against Guzman, Casamayor, and Pacquiao, but they are all winnable fights. Marquez can still solidify a good legacy if he unifies at 135. Tough ask.
solid A level fighter but not the best..but currently the greatest counter puncher in the game for me. I think he's on the same level as pac as a fighter, i think he's also there on the level of mab and morales although i can see him losing to both guys in a close UD(especially the prime barrera)
Right. Debatable, but not laughable. The guy held his own with the current #1pfp. Nothing laughable about that.
