How highly do you rate Machida's win over Rich Franklin?

It was Machida's 3rd pro fight.

At the time, Franklin was 14-0, and had beaten guys like Evan Tanner and Marvin Eastman.

Machida knocked him out early in the 2nd round with a head kick followed by punches.

Following this fight, Franklin went on a tear which saw him the UFC MW title, defend it twice, and beat guys like Nate Quarry, Evan Tanner, Jorge Rivera, Ken Shamrock and David Loiseau in the process.

His run only ended when he met Anderson Silva.

    A great win? :think

Yes. It was a good win, machida's best win until his victory of tito ortiz.Probably not great though( Rich Franklin has never proven himself to be great but if not for anderson silva I believe Franklin would have held on to the ufc middleweight title until Henderson unifies it in 2008 ).

Franklin despite what many will say was not a UFC hypejob he was/ is quality just not all time great status. Anderson silva is just a far superior fighter, and made Franklin look clueless when they fought, but in their second fight Franklin did a lot better than the first and against dan henderson an ATG, they had a very close fight if not for the eyepokes by henderson( I would like to see a rematch between these two).

Machida is just a far superior striker while franklin is mostly a well rounded type, but relies on his striking. When he has been outclassed striking he cant really adapt.

Yaca's got it in one pretty much. It's arguably his second most impressive win after Evans. If you call the 1st fight with Shogun for Machida then it's less impressive as so many scored it for Rua, although to be fair he displayed alot of heart

I agree with everyone so far. I don't really like Rich Franklin as a fighter or a personality, but if you look at the guy's record he really has only lost to the very best. He's not an ATG, but he's a damn good fighter and this is a very good win on Lyoto's resume, especially considering it was only his 3rd pro fight. Makes you wonder why the UFC didn't snap him up earlier than they did.

Good win. Underrated win. Never really mentioned, even on the countdowns etc

Franklin is a good fighter, not a great one, so I hesitate to say "great win" but, in relative terms, it was a great win because Machida was only 2-0 at the time. So, I'd say great win over good fighter.
