How highly do you rate Sanchez's wins/performances against Little Red?

Sanchez-Lopez I is one of my favorite "one-sided" fights, alongside Esparragoza-Cruz. It was very fast paced, and had plenty of action and drama. I especially love how it unfolded in the early rounds, in which the unheralded and supposedly "outclassed" Sanchez asserted himself right at the start and just banged away at Lopez. Lopez then came back in the next round or two and plowed through Sanchez's best punches to score with some big right hands, but Sanchez never wavered and continued to execute his brilliant boxing gameplan.

I also rate Sanchez-Lopez I as one of my all-time favorite boxing "clinics," alongside Harold Johnson vs. Doug Jones.

On a side note, while I know everyone loves to speculate about what Sanchez "would've" done had he lived, I think Sanchez may well have already peaked by the time he died. I'm not sure the Sanchez that fought Cowdell and a green Nelson was quite the same fighter as he had been against Lopez. Then again, it would've been interesting to see whether a jump in weight would've helped or hurt him.

Would've liked to see a unification bout with Pedroza before stepping up to, most likely, Alexis Arguello. Numerous reports say he was on his way out of the game within a year or two. A precious amount of time to squeeze in a couple superfights.

These fights also showed how important the iron constitution was to Sanchez'.

With a typical world class feather chin, or even just a generic very good one he probably loses both by brutal KO circa 4-12 while ahead on the cards. He took some big shots extremely impressively.

    Facial expression doesn't change.

As far as i remember watching Sanchez' fights pre loss&draw was very surprising.

He moved forward without his famous counterpunching, mediocre defence, was hurt a couple of times.

It doesn't sound that shocking that he lost or drew a fight.

Almost a different fighter after that draw with Escobar.

At the very least, he would've wobbled or shown some semblance of reaction. But Sanchez just never even budged when hit hard.

The same was true for the Gomez fight - Gomez landed some clean, hard right hands that would've flattened an ordinary fighter (or even a good, solid contender, perhaps), and Sanchez just walked through them without even changing facial expressions.

I rate them highly. I was a big Little Red fan, attending many of his fights. I think Sal was just a better all around fighter. I would rate him highly all-time feathers.:happy

I didn't enjoy the 2nd fight as much as the 1st one - somehow, it seemed to lack the drama of the 1st one. Come the 2nd fight, Sanchez seemed to know that Lopez couldn't hurt him and he didn't have to fear anything from him, so he fought a more relaxed, slower-paced fight, just picking his spots and punching only when he wanted to. Sanchez almost seemed to be just toying with him at times in the 2nd fight. The slower pace allowed Lopez to get close to him more than in the 1st fight, but Sanchez covered up well and never allowed Lopez to do anything all that effective to him at close quarters. Sanchez did seem to be getting better power and placement on his punches than in the first fight - likely the result of his being more confident and willing to take chances.

The 1st fight is great for seeing the full range of all of Sanchez's talents, but IMO, the 2nd fight is more notable for Sanchez showing the confidence, composure, and class of a great champion.
