Well, first of all, there are people who like to talk about the evolution of boxing, im not one of those people, but we gotta listen to all arguments. His hands were low they will say, and they would be right, but look how extended his left was, that was his front hand, its not like they were by his sides, he knew when someone was in danger range. I posted about him not long ago and likened him to a matador. I think that is an apt description of the man's style of boxing. The guard is low, he's waving you in letting you think you have a chance of cleaning his clock, but he was so confident of his pivoting footwork that he was usually in control. He just wouldnt be there for onrushing opponents at his best, his footwork and ring generalship were something else, and he countered all-day with that left, but dont get me wrong, the man wasnt a runner. I'd llove to be able to see him against other masters of his time in Tunney and Greb, purist's delight right there we have been denied of. I rate him high h2h personally, i'd like to see him against a great mover, i dont think Tunney was always on the move, and from what i can remember, im sure Tunney was the aggressor in their bout, but i could be wrong, accounts differ so much on that one though. If you weren't on Tommy's level, you would get embarrassed, not a close fight. I think you would need footwork to beat him, if you were gunna put pressure on him, you'd have to be able to step around him, otherwise he would do just that to you. Or maybe if you were immensely strong and swarmed on him? Im not going off accounts of his bouts here, just on what i can make of his stlye and what could possibly be his ktyptonite.

Loughran is the kind of fighter who would be a serious threat to anybody his own weight. I dont think that anybody would be much better than even money.

He is arguably the best technician at this weight, perhaps one of the best at any weight. You could just never prepare for everything he might do.

Loughran was a very good technician, albeit a bit up right and stiff. Loughran could box very well. His left hand was text box, but I think he lacked a defining physical part to his game.

He’s was not very good puncher. He was quick, but not blazing fast. He was average sized for a light heavy. Stylistically, Lougrhan had a tough time with talented swarmers, and could be out slugged by the more skilled punchers.

I think the best ATG’s at light heavy had something extra, that Lougrhan lacked. Top ten for me, on the bottom half.

    Not too many...
    Charles, Moore, Spinks, Johnson...
I thinks he edges Conn...Tunney? Maybe prime for prime...Loughran!
Langford would be rough...but I'll take Loughran too stay out of harm's way, and outpoint him.

Reminds me of a bit cruder Calzaghe, quick, great at judging distance, great anticipation, an real inner toughness. Joe hits harder, definitely, but Loghran would go in the ring with anybody. Such were the days.
