the belts are a stepping stone for more money, the 'elite' dont need them and it has been the case many time where a fighter has reliquished a abc trinket to avoid a mandatory fight and take a beter paid option.

You should be allowed to be stripped if you move up into another weight class for more than 2 fights. As in the case with Pacquiao. He won it from Hatton and then moved up and fought Cotto and Clottey. His next fight will be in yet another weight class. You can hold the belt hostage for virtually no reason without being able to get stripped of it if you can fight but choose not to in that weight class.

That said, it's still a meaningless title that, as mentioned earlier, is more for lineage purposes.

I think since the K's won't ever fight, they figured hey, special situation. It isn't out of the realm of possibility that Wald could be KO'd again, and then Vitali could claim the title by beating the guy who beat Wlad. Sucks that they're brothers...

I dont rate the title highley at all, basicly the ring title paves the way for a fighter to be called the champ with out having to defend, They do not enforce a mandotory at all.

When that happens it allows fighters to be stripped of all other titles and keep the ring title while cherry picking fights. I have always had a problem with this title, even though the idea is nice in a perfect world, in this world in reality it does alot of good but more harm than good, as I said they do not enforce any mandos what so ever, though the good side is fighters do not have to pay fees to be called the champ the down side is they can be called champ and fight who ever they want and still be the champ

Dawson/Pascal is now #1 vs. #2. Since the fight will provide a champion, it'll open up a new spot in the rankings. If Dawson wins, he'll probably be fighting Cloud at some point, who will be #2 or #3. It'd be difficult to find anybody who has a better claim to the Light Heavyweight title than the winner of that bout, so to me, it's legitimate. More importantly, once a champion is crowned, the division will sort itself out as long as the champ is willing to face the challengers in his weight class, which I think Dawson will definitely do (assuming he wins).

Not at Jr. Welter, it's tricky. Alexander vs. Bradley SHOULD have been for the championship, but Alexander was justifiably dropped a slot due to his poor performance against Kotelnik, who Khan beat convincingly. Style make fight, yes, but we have absolutely no other way to decide who's better between Khan and Alexander than looking at their performances against Kotelnik. Therefore, I think that Alexander vs. Bradley should NOT be for the title, because Khan has more claim to it than Alexander right now. Whoever wins in the Alexander/Bradley match would in most people's minds HAVE to beat Khan to be the real champ.

It would make more sense to have Alexander rematch Kotelnik while Khan and Bradley fight for the championship. Alexander (if he beats Kotelnik) could then fight the new champion as the top challenger. I don't think anyone would have a reasonable complaint about that. If Alexander and Bradley fight for the title though, there'll be a lot of talk about the Ring title being illegitimate. My opinion, anyway.

Interesting how opinions have changed since the GBP takeover and rule changes.

now the ring is no more prestigious than the alphabelts.

The problem now lies with Ring being owned by one of the top promotional companies.

That spells conflict of interest whichever way you look at it.

    HW: Wladimir
    CW: Hernandez
    175: Dawson
    168: Ward
    160: Sergio
    140: Garcia
    122: Donaire
    112: Igarashi

Every division they have a champion in, they almost always have the best guy carrying their belt. A few current exceptions:
-YPH shouldn't be champ because they rushed Huck out of the rankings to allow Cunningham/Hernandez II for the belt.
-Garcia shouldn't be champ because Matthysse was clearly better than Khan. Case could be made Matthysse is better than Garcia at the weight.
-Igarashi holds a completely legit lineage, but he's clearly below Viloria and Mthalane on accomplishment and would likely lose to several fighters at flyweight.
