How highly does Calzaghe's ATG ranking increase due to Froch struggling with Kessler?

Calzaghe v Kessler would of been much more competitive had it been in Denmark. Home advantage can make a big difference to the outcome of a fight, as imo Froch won the first meeting which the punchstats also backup.

    Froch's resume > Calzaghe's

How is Frochs resume greater than Calzaghes :patsch.
Who has Froch beaten better than prime undefeated Kessler or Eubank?
Then look at the other SMW champs Calzaghe beat and it is far greater

styles make fights innit, you can't judge a boxers legacy by comparing a performance against the same person when they have completely different styles.

you can compare but it doesn't mean much other than a bit of fun.

joe was fighting who he could at the end of his career, lacy gave him new opportunities and he was finally a big enough name to get those big fights he wanted, fair enough some of those were past their sell by date but not really his fault.

froch seems to be playing it safe now, he could do with a good win over ward or GGG but remains to be seen if he'll get in with either. everyone knows froch has some big flaws, that just doesn't put him on the level to compare to calzaghe or elevate his legacy. he does have a great chin, power and heart, lucky for him!

When people mention Calzaghe they often really dont know what they are even going on about.
People think Calzaghe appeared when he beat Lacy because Lacy was an undefeated American champ so was recognised and seen as the big fight even though there was lesser known undefeated champ around in Kessler. Chances are, if Calzaghe had of beaten Kessler before he beat Lacy, it wouldnt have been considered as big a win.
Still before all of that, Calzaghe had a very good resume with wins over SMW champs Brewer, Veit, Reid, Eubank, Woodhall, Mitchell which were all good wins. the Mkertchyan win was a good win. Even Calzaghes win over Sheika, is forgotten that Sheika was coming off a win over prime G Johnson. Starie was also a decent win

Eubank was past his prime when he fought Joe. Didn't he come in at short notice as well? Given a choice of buying a DVD set of either boxer's greatest fights, Froch, is an easy pick.

Yeah, Steve Collins was the champion and decided he wasn't going to fight Calzaghe and going to retire instead, this was about a week or two before the fight.
Strange indeed, since Calzaghe wasn't even particularly well regarded back then, compared to Collins. I guess Collins just couldn't get up for fighting any more.

Eubank was actually in training for a LIGHT-HEAVYWEIGHT FIGHT, he had not fought at 168 for over 2 years, and had only fought a couple of nobodies (in Egypt and Dubai I think) since the and weighing OVER 175 pounds.

He wasn't the champion, he was past it, he was obviously weight drained, and I'm not sure how he was even ranked to qualify for the "vacant championship" ... but this is the WBO we're talking about.

Why was Eubank obviously weight drained? Or past it?
Eubank was 31 and went on to give a CW world champ big problems and had only lost by debatable and a SD to one fighter.
Eubank had been a SMW for a long time and MW before that, Eubank was also in training and had a couple of weeks notice. Eubank in his middle 40s mentioned he was a LHW then and had weights in his clothes to appear heavier when challenging for a CW title.
Was Dawson who hadnt been a SMW for years and had no pedigree at the weight a bad challenge for Ward?
Toney when he defended against Jones was apparently struggling with the weight and had fought at CW and LHW, but I dont think he was considered a bad SMW fight for Jones

He was obviously weight drained because he was called in to fight at 168 a week or two before a fight when he had been scheduled to fight at 175 or 177.

    He was past his best.
He hadn't faced a good fighter in 2 years, he hasn't beat one in 3 years.

Yes, Dawson wasn't at his ideal weight any more for Ward, the fight was made at a bad weight to Ward's advantage. BUT at least Dawson had signed for that fight with months to prepare.

In Eubank's case he had two weeks at the most, to get to a weight division he had already left behind.

I don't buy Toney's excuse. Again, he had months to prepare.
    Eubank did not.

He was notoriously late in getting his weight down. He moved up to 175 because 168 had become more and more a struggle.
But I think you're missing the main point.
On short notice he decides he's going to make 168 instead of 175. He's changing his plan at late notice, and needs to cut 7 extra pounds at least, from what he thought he was doing, and go back down to a weight that he'd given up on because it was doing him in before.
That's obviously the wrong way to do things. It's not ideal.

It's not the same. Because he knew months out that he was making 175 on whatever date.
If someone had said, at short notice, let's make it 168 again Joe, that would be more like it.

    Okay, what's your point ?
Eubank was still in his prime, at his ideal weight, and had the ideal preparation and timing to make that weight ?
Is that what you think ?
