This came into my mind, If Ward had fought him in Oakland or Quebec, dominated or TKO'd Bute...would people be saying Ward finished an elite fighter who was undefeated with 9 defenses...would his standing have gone up...legacy wise IYO...

Furthermore, everyone that would face Bute after, Froch, Kessler or Pascal...would they be seen as fighting a guy that was never the same again after the Ward defeat....

Funny how things turned out...now Bute is viewed as a hyped fighter, before the Froch fight "SOME" consider him the best in the divison.

    Thoughts please brothers...

bute was favoured over froch, many considered him better (to be fair i did to)

it would have been seen as a better win in my eyes but in the long run i think now people are giving wards win over froch alot more credit

ofcourse there are idiots that are blinded by hatred and refuse to give ward any recognition but the same could be said for just about any fighter

I had reserved judgement towards Bute, he was the IBF SMW champion, but he hadn't fought anyone from the top of the SMW tree, Froch rolled over him, I'm sure Ward would have completely dominated him for about 10 rounds before finishing him off

no disrespect towards Bute, but as time showed, he's just not capable of competing with the top guys in his division

Apart from Ward taking more fights out of his hometown, i really cant see how he needs to do much else more than he is doing now to be any more "highly rated"

If you dont rate him highly by now, then you are an idiot.

And if Froch can dominate Bute, What do you think Ward is going to do with him? Might not be a brutal KO, but he would still dominate the fight.

Not as high as him fighting Froch considering Bute was unproven on an elit level.

I dont know if Bute does something of note in the future maybe but the fact is first time Bute really stepped up he got destroyed so i dont think Bute will be remembered like great fighter, i guess once it comes to Ward legacy it will not matter unless Bute returns with some great performances and good wins which i dont think he will do.

Very high. Ward still hasn't even fought an undefeated champion, he had the chance and he didn't want it.

It would have been considered Wards best win because Bute was undefeated. People write on here that an undefeated record doesnt matter, but when you have an undefeated world champ who has built that undefeated confidence it is a big thing.
No Bute isnt as accomplished as Kessler, but Kessler was faded like Froch and both had been beaten. Ward would have really made a big impact in beating an undefeated fighter.

Ward and Bute never beat a top undefeated fighter or an undefeated champ. they are fighting in a weak era, where they could have made their name against each other.
    Shame that past by

It would have helped him a little but not much. Ward whitewashing Froch and Froch's subsequent destruction of Bute pretty much showed the same thing, that Ward is just on a different level from the rest of the Super Middleweight class. And Bute's fight against Grachev further showed Bute struggling massively against a B level guy with a good chin but lacking power and technique, so the styles make fights argument doesn't especially apply in this situation. Basically, if you can take or evade Bute's punch, and can put hands on him at all, things will not go well for Bute, and Ward can certainly do that on a consistent basis.
