first off let me say that i think they were all great champions, hagler, leonard, hearns, duran, and benitez.

I gave each fighter a ranking on two categories skills and accomplishments.
    so here we go!

    Accomp. Skill

    Hagler 8 10
    Leonard 9 10
    Hearns 9 9
    Duran 8 7
    Benitez 7 8

so in my final synopsis sugar ray leaonard was the best of the fab 5 based on his skill and ability to win 5 titles when he started as a small welterweight. Hagler could have edged ray if he had continued fighting and builkt his legacy at 168 or 175. the fact that he reigned for so long and defeated so many decorated fighters is why i rank his accomplishment so high. skill wise he was equal to ray and it showed in their fight.

hearns had very high accomplishments 5 titles as well even after the defeats the ray and hagler he went on to win titles in multiple divisions. his skill was a norch below ray and haglers as it showed in the fights. Duran was beneath them all! and it showed in their fights when each fighter fought to their maximum level duran came out the loser. So of the bunch skill wise duran was beanth ray, hagler, hearns, and benitez, all hold victories over him. But Duran did accomplish much for being so limited skill wise, lack manny pache acquired mtitles in multiple weight classes but he never defended a title above 135.

so there you have it enjoy!:deal:thumbsup:hat:fire:yikes

I was always a huge fan of Hearns and considered him to be among the most skilled of boxers as you seem to have him.

Now....I would have him last. He strikes me as some sort inhuman power punching monster with a great jab. I'd have Duran higher than Hagler in skill-set but I'd have him behind Leonard by a slim margin. Benitez I would have tied with Marvin...nah I'd have Marvin ahead slightly...no I don't meant that, I'd have them on an equal basis...no I'll have Marvin slightly ahead.

Heck, Duran got one win, when Leonard decided to brawl. When Leonard fought to his style, he totally outclassed Duran, he gave up because he was embarassed, as his manager admitted. He lost to Benitez. Heck, he lost to Kirkland Laing. Hearns laid him out. He gave Hagler a fairly good fight but still lost. Those fighters were above him. You can not reasonably put him ahead of these other fighters who beat him.

Duran's career pre-Leonard alone is at least as impressive as Hagler's entire career.

I'd go based on your ranking

    Leonard 10 10
    Hagler 9 10
    Hearns 9 8
Benitez 7 10 in early 80s, deteriorated though by mid 80s.
    Duran 7 9

Duran was more of an elite fighter in the 70s at lightweight. I think Benitez was a better fighter at the time and beat Duran, but Duran accomplished more in the late 80s. Benitez deteriorated by the mid 80s.

Pure talent Benitez is ahead of all four.

Tell me another fighter who doesnt train can be mentioned with these names.

But it takes more than just talent to be great.

I was the biggest Duran fan. I paid to get in the auditorium to watch him beat Leonard. I saw him live when he beat Buchanan on ABC, to win the lightweight champtionship and he was dominant in the 70s at lightweight, that was his best time. I was cheering for him, and was happy when he beat Palomino and beat Cuevas. But here we are talking about the 80s.

I rooted for him when he faced all the above fighters. But he lost to all these fighters mentioned so how can he be ranked better than all these fighters when he lost to them?

great post very relevant in todays time, as we have the fab four of our era actually fighting each other in some form or fashion.

    de la hoya
    mosley
    Pacquiao
    Floyd

floyd being my eras ray leaonard and pac being my eras duran it will be a titantic battle promotion wise but floyd will dust him rather easily. floyd hasn't had anyone of his era be like a skill wise 10 fighter lik hagler was.

skill wise i Rank this eras fab four

    Accomplishments Skill

    Floyd 10 10
    De La Hoya 10 7
    Mosley 8 8
    Pacquiao 10 7

    there you have it..:hat

Benitez was not part of the circle IMHO. Its Fab 4.
