Leonard. 5-1-1 (4) 2. Hagler. 2-1 (12) 3. Hearns. 2-2-1 (9) 4. Benitez. 1-2 (8) 5. Duran. 1-5 (12) Overall. 1. Leonard (4) 2. Benitez (8) 3. Hearns (9) 4. Duran (12) 5. Hagler (12) I scored Duran over Hagler due to the fact that he ranked higher than Hagler in 2/3 catagories. I am timmpeted to switch Hearns and Benitez due to their real match up result in which Hearns won. In the end Leonard is the clear #1.
:happyTotally agree. This is the truth. And even if you are rating him all time great with his lightweight career, he has no win over an ATG at lightweight.
he should be ranked with him. The only fight which did not happen was Hagler/Benitez, but Benitez was right there with all of them. And he outclassed Duran.
Leonard has the overall legacy. And Hagler and Hearns legacy will grow because of the great fights they had. Duran has an aura with his charisma and machismo, but his wins over greats is lacking.
Returnofthe king, Put it his way. Hagler could NEVER taken the 175 title from Spinks. Spinks would beaten him every round. Hagler was a monster in middleweight but he met smaller fighters former lightweight (Duran) welterweights (Leonard, Hearns) Hagler could have moved up to lightheavy but he didnt. After the Leonard-fight a move up would be logic. If Leonard Hearns had been 12 rounds instead of 15 who knows ?
He has a win over SRL at WW (not his best weight), a win over De Jesus, went 15 with 1 of the best MWs ever, And went on to win a Middleweight title against Barkley. Your right, he didn't accomplish that much.
Name me the only Lineal Lightweight champion that won the Lineal Middleweight title:bbb....there's only one & it's DURAN Who became only the 2nd fighter in History & (40+ year gap) in 1980 to succesfully navigate from being Lightweight Champion to Welterweight Champion who outclassed/outboxed/out-thought & outfought Leonard into the bargain ..........it's DURAN Who won a 3rd world crown 7 months after being considered a washed up fat old drunk & told to retire for the good of himself & boxing.......It's DURAN:yep Who was'nt afraid to step up to Middleweight & challange the P4P undisputed superbeast in Hagler when other fainthearts such as Leonard & Hearns hid away & near on pulled of the impossible only to lose by a whisker....it's DURAN Far to much contraversy regarding Leonard & his career what with the weight rigging & ducking & refusing to re-match Hearns or Benitez or challange Duran at 154 when he had the chance & the disgracefull ducking of Hagler until all where well passed it & only then did he only crawl out of his hole & add that too the gift draw against Hearns in 89 & the bogus 2 weight titles against LaLonde in a weight rigging contract joke juxtaposed to the weight rigged Duran III thief in the night farce which got him blacked from ever fighting again in Las Vegas due to the celeb crowd walkout & the howls from the crowd of BULL****! BULL****! BULL****!. Anyway Kevin Howard showed the world & Leonard that he could'nt cut it anymore in 84 at the higher weights. he was finished as a top flight operater & he knew it as thats why he ****ed of into bogus retirement again as he knew full well that he'd have his arse handed to him by Hearns/Duran/Hagler & Benitez back in 83/84. Go watch the Larry U.S. Bonds fight at 147 when in the 2nd round Dundee said "You do know you've got a stiff in front of you" & Leonard laboured all the way till the 10th. Leonard never had what it took to step out of 147 & be in anyway effective against the other 4 when having to compete on a level playing field & Leonard never ever would fight anyone again on a level playing field would he. It's all smoke & mirrors for the consumption of the green & gullible casual who knows **** all:deal Legacy=DURAN & anyone who can think otherwise is totally & utterly clueless about the sport & can only give voice after consulting box-rec & reading up on old Ring/KO/Boxing Ill mags as they lack any sound opinion no doubt based on inexperience of life:yep Leonard was a fraud & one of the worst things thats happended to boxing in 30 years as he was allowed to hi-jack the sport & dictate his own rules & given the green light by all the greed driven governing bodies in their pursuit of feeding at the Leonard $$$$$ trough & thats why we've got a certain Mr Floyd Mayweather Jr employing the same Leonard tactics to extend his ring longevity by avoiding the toughest challenges to prolong his earning capabilities:deal
Had Benitez and Hagler fought in 1981, 82 or 83. When a fight between the two makes the most sense. I think Hagler would have won. Putting Hagler at 3-1 head to head and Benitez at 1-3. Hagler would still be #2 in the head to head ranking. Benitez would also stay at 4. I was thinking that the result would give Hearns and Benitez equal points, However the point totals do not change and Benitez remains one point ahead of Hearns.
Hmm, Hearns Duran: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asiE3nAzqwQ&feature=related[/ame] The legacy of knocked out cold by Hearns. Look at 58-60 seconds into that you tube, 2 minutes left in the second round, He got his ass handed to him. And that was it for him. He was the inferior of those 4 in the 80s. At least when Hagler Hearns famous fight it was an even trade for a while before Hagler finally got the best of him. When Duran faced Hearns he wasn't on the same level and it was a mismatch. Maybe Hearns was scared to fight Hagler but it was a classic match betweent he two. He beat Leonard only because Leonard decided to brawl with him. When Leonard decided to fight on his style he humiliated him, Duran couldn't handle him at all. And was outfought and disgraced himself with his infamous no mas proclamation. Even if Leonard was running, he was connecting flush on Duran's face. That is boxing ability. Did he beat Davey Moore and Iran Barkley (though neither of them ATG), and further enhance himself with some championships? Yea, he did. But 1-5 against these top four, you can't say he's way better than them.
Leonard in the Duran rematch really wasn't Leonard's style. He usually fought more flat-footed, circled the ring, fairly aggressive, etc...Hagler and the last 2 Duran fights were pretty much the only fights in which Leonard spent a large portion of the fight being very fleet-footed. I also wouldn't say he outclassed Duran either, it was competitive (I thought the official cards were fair), which made Duran's quit-job all the more disgraceful. A lot of talk has been made of Duran blowing up in weight and partying after the first fight (Leonard himself talked about this), but I suspect it wasn't something new for Duran anyway. His defensive reflexes were still very sharp in the Leonard rematch.
