1. 8 / 10 BHop 2. 9/ 10 3. 10/10 4. 10/9 Joe but could be scored even 5. 10/10 6. 9/10 Bhop 7. 10/9 Joe 8. 10/9 9. 10/9 10. 9/10 BHop But could be scored even 11. 10/9 JC 12. 10/10 I think that makes it 115 each. A draw. Difficult to score, BHop landing the meaningful shots and was smart, had a good lead going into rd 7. But JCs pressure and picking up the workrate in 2nd half of fight I thought had been enough to win until I looked at my score
i think i scored it 1 point to calzaghe in the end but a few round could have gone either way, hopkins may have landed the more meaningful punches in the fight but if joe didnt press the fight they would have been no fight.so i think thats what won it for joe in the end.
I think that throughout the fight, the more meaningful shots came from Hopkins, obviously the KD etc, but he didn't impose himself at all - its no good throwing 20 punches per round against 70, then moaning that you lost! Most of the rounds were very difficult to score, with the exception of the first!
Rounds i gave to B-Hop were rounds were Calzaghe didnt punch he slapped... Dont get me wrong Calzaghe can punch when needed he hurt Mikkel Kessler with a body shot to prove it... Point is i score EFFECTIVE shots... Calzaghe outworked Hopkins from rounds 1-12 no doubt... The rounds i scored for B-Hop was when Calzaghe landed INEFFECTIVE punches.. People always say that you need to reward workrate but i dont give a **** how much he throws slaps are not punches and you cannot give points for this no matter how many slaps he wants to throw... Anyways 114-113 CALZAGHE in a fight that could have gone either way
http://hop1.ulmb.com/index.html to see the last 2 rounds....(scroll down near the bottom of the page) the site claims to have the full fight but i cant seem to get that to work. Anyway I definately had JC winning by about 3 points. And round 12 IMO was definately JCs round!!
Yeah, I watched the fight twice and then scored rd 12 even. Maybe I was being too nice to BHop but he fought a clever fight and JCs punches were not landing effectively.
all in all he did fight a cagey ugly fight and it wasnt nice to watch. Hes too old to sustain anything nowdays. Like Holyfield really. And hes low blow claims in the fight were a pathetic attempt to get JC points deducted or DQ'd. Good job Cortez and the audience saw through this!! No way on this earth was he hurt like he pretended to be - if anyone should have had points deducted it should of been him. Then to top it he should of been nominated for an oscar for best new actor.
I've watched the fight three times, and by the third viewing it was even more clear that Calzaghe won the fight. Hopkins took four, maybe five rounds if you're being very generous. Watch it again. And Calzaghe also landed some real sharp lefts during the second half of the fight, that got overlooked by most people, me included. And I picked Hopkins by SD or very late TKO.
Cortez has become a joke ref. He wasnt going to help BHop with the low blows as he was trying to salvage his rep after Hatton.
