To be fair though, how often would race play into it?

I mean I know I'd be voting for Kermit Cintron tog et as many title shots as possible.

    LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOO @ KERMIT CINTRON!!!!

I mean it would all be determined by online voting so whoever "the people" vote for is whoever they vote for.... the majority will rule so i doubt stupid **** such as race would play a factor

if one of the titles became vacant the people would vote for which fight to place the vacant belt in.... like if it was heavyweight belt which was vacant.. the officials on the PBO would put up all the heavyweight fights in the next year and the PEOPLE can vote which fight they want the belt to go to and the belt can go to the winner of that fight

fans could vote between arreola & vit or haye & wlad... I might actually pursue this... its a very interesting idea.. i think atleast

They are important, mostly for money and contracts, but no where near as important as they used to be.

Not important at all, except for adding zero's to a paycheck.
(But important in quality of fighting or fighter....NO!)

Belts are very important to upcoming fighters who are seeking recognition but to well established fighters who are also big money fighters they can throw these belts in the trash any time.

Mate, your bottom paragraph is the main reason the boxing game is ****ed regarding titles and belts.

Originally there was the WBA and WBC.. (historically, the truth is far deeper).

As businessmen and fathers of boxers became frustrated with the existing 'Governing Bodies', others were introduced to suit the needs. The Nostalgic values of the main two belts still remains, yet the real and current value is limited to the bums that hold the particular title.

Ricky Hatton and Manny pac are fighting soon. Do you know what title they are fighting for???? Yes.. The IBO!!

Anthony Mundine and Daniel Geale are fighting for the IBO M/W title belt in the coming weeks. Have you heard of Geale??? He holds the IBO M/W title.

How about the IBA??? Oliver (cry baby) McCall vs John Hopoate for the IBA H/W title also coming soon.

If David 'juicehead' Haye was to hold the IBA title and defend it against David Tua, then the IBA would get some value.

See what Im saying mate??? Its the guys who hold the titles, and defend against worthy opponents that make titles interesting.

Geale vs Mundine will be a fizzer.

McCall vs Hopoate would sell 5 viewers internationally.

Hatton vs Pacman will generate $350.000,000 internationally.

In short, fight fans like seeing great fights.

Promoters, governing bodies, PPV networks and all involved only seek $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

We are the ones getting ****ed over by these ****s.

Look at the fighter's reactions when some of them win their first "title."

There's barely even minimal recognition in some cases.

Winning the first title is just the first step to recognition . . . how consistent the fighter's gonna be and who his opponenets are . . . after winning that first title will carry more weight.

Have you heard of Johnny Famechon???
    or Valter Durante???

Both of these men won a single version of a world title. Neither held it for a genuinely extended period.

What are your thoughts of both men??

Belts still have some meaning if you want to set records n ****, like most defenses or be a 5 weight champ or whatever but IMO the true importance of a belt will never return until the day were we go back to just 1 belt per division, yet again politics & money has ruined something special the sport once had & I dont see it changing anytime soon.

Money in sport >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> the fans.

Total selfish bull**** but what can you do ?

Correct mate... we are the blame, as we get sucked in by shitty promotions, month after month.. waiting and watching.

Its the same as trying to determine a womans frame of mind.. we think we have it solved, then "BANG"... its ****ed again! Promoters must have ****s too.

Possibly, there would be a lot of factors to consider with it though like making sure the same people didn't vote repeatedly and somehow making sure that people from all over the world voted so that the belts weren't biased in favour of fighters from the US or the rest of the English speaking world.

'Celebrity' boxers would get more votes than they deserve for their boxing abilities too.

I think it would perhaps work better if there was a belt similar to what you're saying but only boxing writers, ex-boxers and people who have ben involved in the sport and know something about it were actually involved in any decision making.
