i know the title sounds gay but this is a serious question.

do you guys observe how hard your body feels?

i know looking "ripped" isn't that important in athletic performance. e.g. guys like calzaghe, marciano, peak frazier were never ripped, but there's no doubting their conditioning.

how about being hard? the reason is some parts of my body aren't as hard as others. e.g. my abs (under a layer of fat :D) are pretty solid, but the side of my trunk is quite soft (even though i do stuff like side bridges). also, my biceps are soft compared to my tris. you guys reckon it's just genetics or should i ramp up training these parts?

    cheers in advance.

Not necessary. Sometimes you gain un-needed muscle weight. I don't know how about you are about making the weight, but don't over do it. You can have a small pack, but don't go Holyfield is what im saying.

Don't forget the only muscles you need in boxing training are the ones you actually use in a fights(sounds obvious but people forget). The only reason you workout is because you cannot spar 4-6 hours a day.

Theres no such thing as "uneeded muscle weight" Thats just hogwash. And for the record Holy is/was a career 215-219lb heavy. Thats a VERY small heavy. Considering he was fighting at cruiser over 20 years ago those are fantastically small gains for a man who is 6ft 2 and spent the early parts of his career at 190lbs and the Am's at 175lb.

Theres absolutely nothing wrong with Holys physique. His is ALL FUNCTIONAL muscle as per his training regime. In addition theres no such thing as a "small pack". You're abs are one sheet of muscle. It grows as a whole not in spots.

Hardness is an indication of good conditioning. Nothing wrong with that at all. The more striated a muscle the more depth thickness and overall musculature you will have, as well as operating response providing the muscles has been trained as such.

Man, I don't look like an athlete. I'm very fit though. I can't get rid of my love handles, but I can run a mile in five minutes, and can also do well over a hundred press ups, I coul do more but I don't want to get too big and slow myself down..... not bad for someone who weighs fifteen and a half stone.

Not when you can do 100. They could slow you down but only if your not doing your sport specific training (heavybag, shadowbox, sparring, double end, mitts, etc)

Proper muscle tone is important for optimum athletic performance. "Hard" muscles are prone to injury.
