Maybe not disqualified, but certainly Hopkins merited being given more warnings for clinching. A point or two should have been deducted there, and another point should have been deducted when Hopkins fell over and slammed his body atop of Dawson in the 11th round.

.....and I'm leaving out the blatant bum rushes where Hopkins employed his head vs Dawson.

Yet some of the wannabe called purist in this forum want to call that boxing.:nut

I was impressed by what Hopkins got away with to make the fight so crap to watch.

What's worse is the younger fighters adopting that style of 'fighting' such as Andre Ward and Andre Dirrell.

Hopkins was Hopkins. . . He do what he do, and he did what he does. . . Even in a losing effort, he makes the winrar look ineffective.

  5. Hopkins is the best neutralizer of the modern era.
Remember he is a true middleweight. Normally (pre being IN HIS FOURTIES LOL! he turns ur best weapons against u,)
The fact he can make the best light heavies look like garbage is epic.
thought he would get stopped but lost 7 of the 9 rounds i gave to Chad by a tiny margin.

So combination headbutting and clinching = masterful defense? Remind me of this when someone else does it so I can re-direct people here.

I was very impressed. his footwork was finally out matched, but he utilized great head movement and hip movement along with rolling his shoulders well and smothering dawson's punches. dawson was very smart to start uppercutting hopkins on the inside. good fight for those of us who aren't barbaric idiots with low comprehension skills. had very interesting subtleties by both fighters.

Hopkins exposed Dawson's weak left hand. Dawson is a right-handed southpaw so Hopkins used foot movement to force Dawson to use his left hand. Hopkins was open to the left cross the whole night and Dawson rarely threw the straight left. Had Dawson used his left hand more, Hopkins would have been tagged a lot. Dawson still won just because of his skills and talent.

It's not to say Dawson can't throw the left cross. Back when Dawson was with Floyd Sr and Eddie Muhammad, Dawson threw the left cross with regularity. I don't think Scully worked on Dawson using his left hand much, he should have though. I know Steward emphasizes on a strong cross punch.

not bad for a 47 yr old...but subpar for his own standards. i've never seen him get hit so cleanly so many times. dawson couldn't miss with that lead left.

Hopkins could've won that fight if he'd thrown more and showboated less. Obviously it goes against his style to have a high output style so that's why I think he tried to show off to get some crowd pops and catch the judges eye.

    Didn't work though.

By those standards its just a matter of time before John Ruiz is voted into the boxing HOF!

Impressed by Hopkins feints, stepping right, Dawson would throw the jab, Hopkins would slip underneath and throw left hook to the body.

The bout went somewhat like expected.
B-Hop swowed his age, his tricks and his spoiler style while Dawson didn't fall for the traps and did his usual job. So not really impressed/unimpressed.
