When the fighter is the lineal and legit champion it is impressive that you are the new champion. It is impossible to pick on a cripple when said cripple is the champ. If Sergio couldn't fight, he should've vacated the title.

I was looking for the poll option "more impressive than anything the OP has ever done in his life" but I couldn't find it.

It depends highly. In general, it's not that good because you can't even say for sure how much a fighter had left.
In some rare cases, it's still very worthy.

That was not the case, tough. That was just a payday. And now the entire middleweight division will rot for a year.

How can we ever talk bad about mma? At least there the bests ARE FORCED to fight the bests. This alone is more than boxing can ever show under that aspect.

There should be no Pac fans in this thread, because you and he and Arum are all clamming for a fifth Dinamita fight, and will undoubtedly make a big deal about it if Pac wins.

Near prime? 1 in a million?

    Hopkins
    Couture
Clemens (Ok, I could leave this one off)
    Jimmie Johnson
    Dale Earnhardt
    Nichilson
    Peyton Manning
    Marty St Louis
    Mariano Rivera
    archie Moore
More than 1 in a million

Depends on who the 40 year old man is. Looking at how Martinez' balance was off from the start. Cotto did what he should have done. Had that been the Hopkins from the Taylor fights, Cotto would have been in trouble.

lol at 1 in a million, so dramatic. I would say pretty impressive since most people including myself thought Sergio was going to knock Cotto out.

I'd say hopkins is closer to one in a billion

Maybe once in a..... Well, once ever

No one has had his longevity

The closest parallel in tennis is rosewall who won a slam at 37 years old

Almost 20 years after his first
And rosewall also made a slam final at 39

Of course tennis takes more out of someone and most tennis players peak at 25 and are done before they are 30

I was pretty dam impressed with the ass whoopin that Cotto brought to bear on Sergio but I was almost just as impressed that a 40 year old gimp leg ****** could stand up to a beat down like that. Just saying.

WTF people are now in denial Cotto is not in his ****ing prime, He is faded boxers too, so faded that He had taken more shots and beatdowns than Martinez. So Cotto is not shot but not prime either. Cotto is in his mental prime again thats for sure. Something that Margarito destroyed.
