That was a great win but I think his win over Bernard was way better.

If im honest i thought the fight was closer than i was expecting it to be, but then it was a while ago and that fight hasnt stuck in my head as well as some others have done.

I wasnt expecting a Lacy style dominance but i was never sure how highly i ranked Kessler, i think i didnt think as much of him as some others do. And so i expected an easier night for Joe than it was. It was still a very good win though.

He didn't really beat Hopkins, the fight could've gone either way and the official scores reflect that. Calzaghe wanted nothing to do with a rematch, fought a shot to pieces Roy Jones instead and retired then.

A prime Kessler is his best win, and it's a very good win indeed.

It's a very good win. Nothing special/landmark, considering how easily Ward spanked Kessler, which came before Kessler's greatest ever win vs Froch. But still a quality win. Kessler is a good smw, nothing more nothing less, and Joe outboxed him for the majority of their contest. Nice work.

I think it was significant to give him validity in the States.
Americans are always weary of overseas fighters and this fight was promoted nicely w/ trust in Kessler being a solid opponent.
Calzhage showed a wide range of skills and chin that impressed U.S. boxing fans big time. He was the real deal.

Kessler had a bit of an off night and was too inactive (a bit like Froch vs Kessler), he hadn't sparred enough for the fight (due to an injury) and his timing was a bit off (there was talk of overtraining as well but considering Joe ahd to kill himself to make weight at the time that probably wasn't so much of a factor).

Joe showed tremendous heart and ring smarts though.

The HBO commentary was a total JC nuthugging show...

Yes, it was a good win indeed. Nothing spectacular though as (a) Kessler was never Sugar Ray Leonard and (b) because Calzaghe didn't emphatically beat him down like Ward did, merely won an 8-4 type decision. Good win/performance.

Ward didn't beat a prime Kessler, but Calzaghe did.

Calzaghe only really had 2 weapons though. His left and right hand.

Ward had that plus 2 elbows a head and his hometown. That fight pissed me off because of all the damn illegal blows.
