Pretty impressive since Roy was coming up from middle and light heavyweight. I would've loved to see Toney-Jones 2 at 190 after Roy won.

I do. Hell a fat out of shape James Toney also beat Ruiz that made Roy's win about worthless if another former Middleweight could do it. :deal

Ok so let Jermain Taylor, Kelly Pavlik or Bernard Hopkins try it. How about any other of the countless Middleweight title holders? Going from 160lbs and beating ANY fighter who holds a piece of the Heavyweight title is an amazing achievement. Just ask anyone else who has done it :good

hey nuthugger Roy did not go straight from Middleweight to Heavyweight.

It happened over a long period of time. Why don't we wait and see about some of those fighters you listed maybe they will do it but guess what? Right now there is not a Heavyweight beltholder that is as mediocre as John Ruiz right now for them to handpick like Roy did. :hi:

It's impressive in the sense that Jones started fighting at 160....

Many people say it was only against Ruiz...but that's the same Ruiz that has wins against Holyfield; Kirk Johnson; Hasim Rahman; Andrew Golota; Jameel McCline and was robbed against Valuev !

If it was that easy...you'd see the Tarvers, Calzaghes and Hopkins of this world do it right away !!

His win was impressive purely because of what he had to do to win it.

The sterioids did help pack on mass, but he wasn't a natural heavyweight and john ruiz was a world class one. He had to use speed and stratergy and a text book showcase of supreme technique to fend off the bigger man. So it was a good win but obviously not the best ever [like gene fullmer over ray robinson] but a very win!

Very impressive win. He was coming up from 175 all the way to fight a guy about 230. People like to discredit great achievements only because they happened but if he had gotten KTFO, people would've said he was just way over his head. Give credit where it's due.

I think Hopkins for sure. Too much skill and he would've been a solid 200 lbs. I doubt Calzaghe. I just don't think he had the frame to carry up the weight as well. That's why he's been able to fight at SMW for so long.

If it was so easy every middleweight woul dbe trying it.

Ruiz was probably easiest to beat, but still one of the best heavyweight the was at the time, he came back to beat Rahman in his next fight...

i think dominating such a big man is a legendary performance, I think he shouldve stayed at heavyweight and knocked up a few more wins, he couldve beaten an awful lot of top ten heavies.

Not very...Ruiz was only a top ten fighter 1/4 Champ and a weak Champ at that.. Then Jones dodged Tua his mandatory, and ran from Vitili who was his mandatory.
Ruiz also lost to slower than molasses in January Valuove.

John Ruiz wasn't able to fight his type of fight. Every time there was some sort of a clinch (usually where Ruiz does most of his "work"), Jay Nady would break it up instantly.

I love how people discredit his win because of who Ruiz is ..But Jones is the only man in the history of the sprot to have held a middle weight title and heavy weight titles ..

But yeah thats not impressive im sure Hopkins or Joe or any other fighter of this generation could have done that !

    A fabulous performance......

    rating RJJ..

James Toney win was very classy,
Montell Griffin rematch was excellent , punch perfect..
Ruiz win was astonishing , to see a man like Ruiz who hates to be touched by many shots against top heavys, was outpunched by a mile by the comparritively tiny RJJ.

    Absolutely amazing win...
