I doubt his performances could have been more emphatic against the two you mentioned. Both opponents (Biggs and Tubbs) were in there trying. And despite whatever out of ring travails they were enduring, the only loss of their combined resumes was Tubbs losing a paper thin decision to Witherspoon.

The run from Biggs through to Spinks. Eight months, four fights, 14 rounds (of which ten were completed) with his opponents being both top drawer and, with the exception of Spinks, career heavyweights.

I think the Holmes kayo is a very good performance. I'm of the opinion that Larry Holmes did more preparation than has been claimed. His plan was working okay 'until he got punched in the mouth'. Tony Tubbs was unmotivated, apparently, but how much of that was Tyson's aura at the time? Three years later, Tony looked okay against Bowe. Same with Biggs - systematically broken down by Tyson but able to trouble Bowe greatly later on down the line.

Holmes, Tubbs and Biggs all performed well much later on against decent fighters like McCall, Mercer, Holyfield, the aforementioned Bowe. Their performances were vastly improved on their showings against Tyson when they had been much younger and fresher.

That's what is so impressive. Tyson made decent fighters look terrible but they weren't. They just looked terrible against that version of Tyson because he was simply that good.

Tysons sustained and surgical beating of Biggs is up there with Ali v Terrell. For sleights real and imagined, Tyson chose to administer a beating where he continously and accurately hit Biggs jist hard enough not to stop him. For me, it was an awe inspiring glimpse inside the mind of what Tyson could have been....

To be good enough to toy with the Olympic superheayweight gold medallist at the age of 21. It's mind-boggling.

Turn Tyson's career round and start it with the dross of '96 onwards and end it with his form of the late '80s - same results; just flip the periods of poor results with the good run of form - how do we view him? Say he ends up kayoing Spinks after Biggs, Holmes and Tubbs. His ranking, with the exact same results, shouldn't be viewed any differently but I bet it would change a lot of folks' perceptions.

I think they were all good performances and against mostly quality fighters.

All good performances but Tubbs was grossly out of shape it has to be said but that's not Tyson's fault and Tubbs always had weight problems honestly. The win over Tubbs also does look good in hindsight aswell as Tubbs came close to beating a near prime Riddick Bowe a few years after.

I felt like Biggs wasn't quite ready for Tyson but his team were also trying to make him fight more aggressively when instead he should've used his height, reach, boxing skills. I felt like the Bey fight prior to the Tyson fight showed he wasn't ready for Tyson and the weaknesses were on display there. Still Biggs was an undefeated Olympic gold medalist and ranked in the top 10 so its a good win but I do feel he was rushed a tad.

    It’s an absurd run.

A string of vicious early knockouts over skilled big men.

Laying out Larry Holmes of all people in 4 rounds.

And in that title reign he only lost about 4 or 5 rounds in total.

    These results are unmatched.

Tyson is the best fighter ever, it’s not close.

Biggs was absolutely chucked in against Tyson, but even with a couple of more years to his career and he still gets roasted.

Very impresive. Thomas was past his best, Tubbs was out of shape, Holmes was old and rusty and Biggs never accomplished anything, but the way he did it was still very impressive. Holmes would also go on to have some very good performances years later.

But Berbick, Spinks and Williams were the most impressive, I think. All pretty much in their prime and he just annihilated them. Tucker was probably his best opponent pre Douglas and Tyson convincingly beat him. Tucker wasn't great, but he was pretty complete so a good win.

So all in all one of the great HW runs.

I actually think the Holmes win was one of Tysons most underrated victories, not the win itself, the manner of it.

I agree. He has himself rated it as his best performance and I can see why.
