Carm was never expected to be more than a journeyman, he didnt have much of a amature career won some lost some, he had brittle hands, bad skin and couldnt punch, he had a good few losses on his way to becomeing champion, but his determanaton and hard work paid off and he over came all of the above to be a all time great!
Basilio was goign through a bad patch and was thought as as a good name oppoenent for Davey to beat. A Alright fight i thought Davey got it by 1 but alot of people think Basilio won it so it was very controversial
on paper it doesnt make sense but chuck davey even though not a great puncher, not fluid, kinda chinny. what he did have was a spoiling, southpaw, jab and move style. and in that it was a VERY close fight.
I do have one of there fights, the draw I belive, or was it a Davy win? Either way. I thought Carman won that fight. I belive Davy won it more for having the "Right" people judge the bout. Just ask Saxton why he won the title from Basilio. Same reason, he had the "Right" people there judgeing the fight.
Its ok, I not one of thsos guys that hold it against you, When they get here, we may do other trade down the line if you want. So if its the one were Davy won, how did you score it?
Davey had an awkward infighting style that troubled Carmen, and Carmen hadn't yet developed into the polished fighter he would later be at his peak. Regardless, the fight was much closer than the scorecards had it.
