I can't say I disagree with your post, but I do have a few thoughts on the subject.

I think the fact that Klitscho can do that to his opponents, and then follow it with a lackluster performance, speaks to the general weakness of the division, and Klitscho's weakness as well.

I've been heavily criticized for claiming that several of the great contenders of the 60's and 70's could clean out todays HW division. I do not believe that criticism is justified.

Can you imagine George Chuvalo showing his "inner punk?" I can't imagine Chuvalo doing anything other than pulling out all the stops and fighting his ass off. In my opinion, Wlad would fold under that kind of pressure. It would be Wlad who showed his "inner punk."

Can you imagine a prime Jerry Quarry fighting like Haye did? Wlad would end up eating left hooks and right hands that he couldn't see coming, and wondering what the **** he was suppose to do!

I was 7 years old the first time Ali fought Liston, so I literally grew up watching a great HW era. That's why I have so little interest in the division today.

Sorry for that since you could have used your time better then. There are a lot of great young fighters out there in light weights divisions, real warriors who take some to give some. You have Pacquiao and Mayweather about to materialize a dream fight. You have a lot of young talented men in Andre Ward, Carl Froch, Andre Dirrell, Chad Dawson and great old timers in Bernard Hopkins, Sergio Martinez, Miguel Cotto, Antonio Margarito. Who the hell needs the Klitschko alphabet title defenses?

I thought yesterday had a chance to rejuvenate the HW division and with it boxing as a whole, it didn't it hurt the sport as a whole because both sucked when all the lights and attention was on them. Pathetic.

    So you're basically saying this:

    Chuvalo > Wlad Klitshcko

    I gotcha.

Of course, Chuvalo would be Wlad. No doubt in my mind.

    Get real.

I'm watching it again now and it is even worse than I remember. Some rounds are absolutely terrible. Both fighters were awful. Boxing lost.

During the era that Chuvalo fought the top 10 actually meant something. George stayed in the top 10 for 14 consecutive years. In that era the Klitschos would be remembered for their abnormal size, and little else.

Right now we are witnessing the poorest HW era in boxing history, and that is the only reason the Klits can dominate.

Chuvalo would beat Wlad, mainly because Chuvalo could take everything he threw, have the mind and ability, with power to adjust and make it a war.

Wlad still is scared of pressure, and technique-wise does the wrong things when pressured, like backup in a straigh line with his chin in the air and hands out. A real fighter who wreck him, hell we saw what Lamon did to him when he was still healthy and cometitive.

Agreed! George was one hell of a pressure fighter, and his amazing chin and over all toughness allowed him to keep moving forward under almost any circumstances. Wlad would fold under that kind of pressure. Chuvalo would beat him mentally by the mid rounds, and physically somewhere in the championship rounds 13-15.

You know what, im not suprised at all at seeing all these types of threads, they happen after all klit fights, wheel out the fantasy matchups, this guy would kill the klits etc etc, it seems to be a lot of americans harking back to some old days all the time, well get real, a lot of these smaller guys in the past would have the same problems getting past the defensive stlyes of the klits and a lot of them are a lot slower than haye as well

Must really be painful to see the current landscape but things are the way they are and if the klits werent here it would be a hell of a lot worse, you would have arreola v kingpin for a belt and hey, both guys may still be undefeated and a lot of you guys would be telling people hey, these guys are pretty good LOL

You shouldn't be surprised to see fight fans dreaming about "the good old days." I've stated many times that I literally grew up watching Ali's career unfold. Those of us who grew up during that era were treated to one of the most exciting eras in HW history.

Just look at Ali's resume. Look at who Ali fought, and who his opposition fought. When was the last time two heavyweights produced a fight of the year type fight? Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Quarry, Bonavena, and others from that era produced those kind of fights time and time again.

Wladimir Klitscho, on the other hand, specializes in producing snooze festivals.

I can see where you're coming from on it, boo. It's been such a long time since Wlad showed offensive variety and a real killer instinct that alot of people forget he ever had that side to him at all. In an effort to protect his conditioning because he used to expend energy like he was a middleweight, Steward has essentially neutered Wlad's offense and dumbed it down to 3 very basic, but very effective, weapons- the jab, straight right, and left hook.

Sometimes I get frustrated because I'm a fan of Wlad's and I know he's capable of doing more than he shows us today offensively. I think it's important to remember that just because he hasn't been in a tough fight for awhile, doesn't mean he'll crack once it happens. What we need to see is someone who can force him to use those tools rather than get dominated by his basic game.

Wlad's got more gears than he shows us these days- it's just a shame he won't go there unless it's necessary. Maybe an iron-chinned, brass-balled, come forward guy like Chuvalo would be the type to force that out of him- but I think he'd suffer a hell of a beating if he succeeded in it. And I think that's why some of Wlad's opponents don't want to take the risk of genuinely forcing the fight. In his recent title run, the guys who have fought as hard as they could, get knocked out brutally. Other fighters see that, and some decide they would rather lose a boxing match, getting beat on points or having their corner bail them out. They've seen that if you stick to that, Wlad will generally take his shutout victory without really putting himself into a higher gear and really punishing them.

Guys like Quarry, Chuvalo, etc. would take the former option and fight as hard as they could. But while it'd make for better fights for us, it could well be a case of "be careful what you wish for" for them.

He's a boxer, a boxing puncher....and you want him to be a hooking hit me in the chin Lacy.

The hate is constant...even back when no one saw them out of Germany in the 6-8-10 round fights. They were hated because they were Euro and White.
Lenox was just as hated as DHL, which I couldn't understand, he was a a very good boxer with power. OH, he spoke too high classed for some.....boring...safety first...now he's the Great Lewis
Like Tuney was hated when it was discovered he was reading Shakespeare. He wasn't animal enough for some.
    .
Ali was safty first...yep... I was there...and there were lots of fights he could have put the man out of there two rounds before...but didn't....safty first.

After Wlad gassed on Purity....he decided to have enough energy to last 12 rounds.
Sanders beat the arrogance out of him.

He found out again, he could gas with Brewster....and I bet the haters only remember the last part of the last round, and not the offensive beating he gave Brewster.

He has a weakness, he's 6 foot 6...((It's his brother that's 6 foot 7....but that's too much for a hater to remember.))) And he's active the whole three minutes of a round...so that takes something out of a big man moving normally 250 pounds around a ring.
He gassed twice....so now he don't gas.
He gassed from trying to KO Purity and Brewster at all costs.

Then he was an instant bum.....
No one said...wow what an exciting fight the one with Brewster was.....nope....what a bum....ha ha.

That's OK, now hate of any one good is natrual....that was not the thing in the old days.

Lyle would be considered a china bum today.

Short armed Quarry by the way ended up punchy...but that's what you want....he'd be hated too today....as a cruiser... A bum who actually lost to folks.

Yep...haters...blind in their hate....must hate the face in the mirror too,

Of course I've been knowing what a jab, a hook and a cross was since I was five.

A Lt. Heavy neighborhood woman blacked the eye of her Welterweight husband while watching a fight. It didn't look nothing like a Little Rascals black eye.

So I wormed may way into that house for the next fight in 1953 fuzzy rabbit eared B&W TV, in a dark room; with the kitchen light giving the room enough light.

They sat on the couch. I sat on the floor, Frog eyed, one eye on the fight and one eye looking for a new black eye.
I learned a lot. How to Jab, hook, cross, .... defence....of the husband's good upper body motion swaying and getting his left up to Block a hard hook.
That woman would have KO Lilia Ali...10 times out of ten.

Had the guy on the TV listened to her, he'd won too. But he didn't and lost.

    Styles make the fight.

But Hate takes common sense to the mat faster than a Haye Knee.

You don't see the fight when you hate...you see only your hate ....
    I've seen better fights.
    I've seen worse fights.

I suggest watching some fight some day, where you have never heard of either...and have not sat down to stroke your hate, but watch two fighters you don't know.
That would be good for you.....it might take two or three rounds before you discover which one you hate....well for two or three rounds, you'd actually see a fight with no blinkers on.
