How in the hell does Cotto get a title shot after that beating?

I guess afew of those like Jones-Ruiz or Hoya-Sturm would've been considered give away belts at the time.... But nah I was just talking about the smaller man jumping up in division and going staright for a title without climbing any ranks...

But back on Cotto I don't see any reason for him at 54 or a reason to be challenging for a title. Arum can buy some belts. The guy loses to Marg then his next fight is for a title against Jennings. Now Pac beats him and he gets a title shot at an even higher weight.

Exactly this. Don't think off it as a title shot, that would mean he fought the number one. He's just fighting a top contender who has a belt (which we should be working on making indifferent).

 Your bias is pure gold comedy. Pac wanted 142, Cotto suggested 145. If Cotto didn't want the catchweight fight nobody pointed a gun to his head to sign the dotted line. Cotto even said after the fight he felt great at 145, evidenced by his dancing backwards for 11 and a half rounds.

You kidding? Being a star attraction actually carries weight in this game, unlike these "titles" you refer to.
