How is 147 bad for Marquez?

Great point, and I agree completely. Don't see how people don't comprehend this either, but in order for people to comprehend I do think Pac should take this fight at 140, or 141. 141 would be right in the middle (marquez moving from 135+6=141) (pac moving down from 147-6=141).
Like I said I completely agree, but haters are gonna find any excuse they can...Why give them another one? Just like Cotto weighing 146 vs Clottey, and Pac asking him to lose 1 FREAKIN POUND and weigh 145....Then say he was weight drained LOL. It's nothing to take a **** and lose that! :yep
Marquez was to worried about being small against Floyd. It shouldn't matter if he fights at 160...No point in him trying to gain fat. Also, Floyd was all wrong for him from the get go. 2 defensive fighters trying to fight eachother doesn't workout to well. Of course Floyd isn't going to abandon his style, and Marquez is to proud to give the crowd a boring fight...So he fights like he never did in his life.
He has no chance in beating Pac these days, but I do beleive it'll be a much better fight than him vs Floyd based on styles, and JMM being smarter this time around.

It is a matter of opponents to at the weight. Look at Juan Manuel has fought recently.

Juan Diaz-Exposed at 140 by Paul Malignaggi
Michael Katsedis-a limited tough brawler, tailor made for JMM. plus he is a 135 pound fighter.

JMM is not a Welterweight. no matter how people spin it.

Ask the question, what does Shane Mosley do to the competition that Marquez just fought.

There's no problem at 147. Marquez doesn't have to weigh that heavy, it's just a limit! 147lbs. is a way for both fighters to come in wherever they are comfortable as long as it's not above 147. Marquez can weigh 135 because he likes cutting weight, Pacquiao wants 144-145 because he doesn't like cutting weight. on fight night they're almost the same.

So there's no reason at all to think it's relevant to this discussion then?

The main reason why Roach wants to keep Pac near 147 is for the Floyd fight, Roach dont really want Pac moving too down and then maybe back up to fight Floyd.

They want to keep him near Floyd's weight in case the fight is made.

If he wants to fight at 147, why not fight Wiliams or Berto? Or defend his 154lbs belt against Martinez?

IMO, Pac is not going to go down to 140, regardless if the fans want it. JMM stated (forgot what interview it came from) that he's willing to fight Pac @ a catchweight within the WW range. Even if Pac can go down to 140, he will not do it just appease JMM, who's been talking a lot of crap about Pac. I really believe this fight will be fought @ a catch weight.

Marquez doesn't need to put on weight if the fight is at 147 FFS. He can just skip the whole boiling down to 135 for the weigh in and then putting back 7-9 lbs on fight night. The size difference he'll have with Pac won't be as pronounced as it was against Mayweather, so why would Marquez want to bulk up? Whatever the weight the fight is made at, 140 or 147, Pac will weigh 148 on fight night either way.

In both scenarios Marquez will be around 144 on fight night and Pac will be 148 on fight night. The only question is will the 4 extra lbs Pac will have to drain to make the weight be a difference, and honestly, considering how easy Pac made 144.6, I don't think it will.

That being said, I'd prefer the fight to be at 140 just to lessen the excuses after the fight, but as far as the results of the fight... I really don't think it will have much of an effect.

    Read the edit.

I don't believe it's not an optimum weigh-in weight for Marquez. I can't tell you why he looked slower. Maybe he wasn't doing as much road work, maybe he did training to bulk up instead of his usual routine and therefore lost a degree of explosiveness. Like I said, I can't give you an absolute affirmative reason why. Some people just don't go up weight classes as effectively, everybody has a ceiling, and not everyone can be Pacquaio or Guillermo Jones:D. All I know is he looked slow leading up to the fight in training. He obviously looked slow in the fight largely because he was in with Mayweather, but to me, and to a lot of other people he looked slow leading up to the fight.

This is the best and most simple answer considering both fighters are more or less of the same weight during fight night.

I agree, but considering the **** the *****s were saying for the 1 lb Cotto (who was 146 during the Clottey fight) had to shed for their 145 fight...
