Marquez was too weak at welterweight. The few shots he landed on Mayweather had absolutely no effect because he had feathers for fists. If he wants to fight Pac again - he'll just have to deal with it.
147 is the deal guys. That's Pacquiao's weight that he's been fighting at for the past 2 fights and Pac obviously makes the rules here. Pac isn't gonna budge on this so just accept it. As far as the weight effecting the fight. No, I don't think it will. Pac would beat Marquez at 140 too. The winner of a boxing match does not come down to weight. If that was the case then Margarito would have killed Pacquiao. Harrison would have slaughtered Haye. Valuev would destroy everybody. Get it?
140 is bad for Marquez nevermind 147, Pac really should be coming down to 135 to fight but the least he can do is make 140 which he wont. So the age and weight factor makes this fight a bit meaningless. Pac dodged JMM anyway after the 2nd fight, in his heart he knows he didnt win that fight.
Accepted but then he gets no credit when he wins, which will be accepted too. The only way you will see the best of Marquez is at 135, at 140 not so much but maybe enough to make it semi competitive, 147 its not worth watching.
They say because he'll have to carry that weight in training and thus will make him slow and sluggish. 140 would be no different tho
i don't get it, why can't JMM and his fans accept the 147 limit? It's not like they have to weigh exactly 147 during weigh-in, it's just a limit so each fighter can weigh wherever they are comfortable, one fighter likes to cut weight and the other one doesn't. By fight night it's still almost the same like their first 2 match, a difference of 2-3 lbs! Pacquiao ain't a middleweight to reach 160lbs by fight night, so why be scared?
Pretty sure JMM weighed in at 144 vs Mayweather.Got absolutely schooled, looked slow, looked to have no pop inhis punches and was beaten in a shut out.How would beating JMM at 147 be good for the legacy?Just so Pac and Roach can rave on about how Pac is far moreimproved and the first man to KO JMM.When in truth JMM is slow, feather fisted and has no business fighting at welterweight.
The difference though is that Pac has carried his speed at 147 while Marquez has declined a bit. Still competive as to what round will Marquez gets knocked out.
Let's also factor in Pacquiao's body has been trained and is now accustomed to fighting full-fledged welterweights yet JMM's has not. Pac has proven he can handle and mix power with welter's yet there is still a question mark on JMM. Sure he could make weight, but can his body take the shots of a guy who has grown into his welterweight body over two years. Is it anyway fair that we test an assumption by putting him in with the p4p #1? Basic physiology suggests a body takes time to adjust at different weights and even a few kilograms can effect the body - not simply speed and power, but the efficiency of how the body moves oxygen and blood to the excess muscle and lungs. Finally did you ever notice how when Pacquiao moved up in weight he still continued to dehydrate for the weigh in even though he could have technically just eaten a full breakfast and drank water and come in at weight? This is because the body has now adapated to a certain type of training method i.e. weigh x amount 4 weeks before, x amount 2 weeks before, dehydrate x amount 24 hours, replenish the body until fight night. This is why boxers can complain of feeling sluggish if they deviate too far from a program they've had success with.
But, given that Marquez weighed the same in the ring for the Mayweather and Katsidis fights, you still need to explain how dehydrating for a weigh-in magically makes a fighter better? Are you saying that if Marquz had been allowed to weigh in at his fight weight for the Katsidis fight, but Katsidis had still weighed in at 135, that would have been a disadvantage for Marquez? Is this upside down world now? So, once again, the only way that a fight at 135 or 140 is better for Marquez is if he has a relative advantage compared to his opponent. In absolute terms it makes no difference to him. He can train how he wants without worrying about weight at all. For 135 or 140 to be better for him comparatively it would have to be draining to Pacquiao and hence negatively affect his performance. You might make a case that that could be so at 135, but 140?
JMM weighed about the same for Mayweather @ WW as he did for Katsidis @ 135. Can u please explain to me how cutting weight to make 135, then rehydrating overnight is better than just coming into a fight at your natural fighting weight?
