How is a man with more career KO'S than SRL considered a runner?

Because Ray Leonard wouldn't run from Andre Berto, for one.

 

They mean that SRL pushed the fight and was more of an aggressor during his fights than Floyd. Floyd always seems to be fine just fighting defensively and winning with a decision while SRL threw bunches in punches to outland his opponent and try to go for the ko.

Just because they say that about Floyd doesn't mean it means much bro. His career played out better than SRL for one thing

 

Half of Floyd KO's were scored in first 1,5 years of his career against Z-level opposition.

Once his opposition improved, he scored 13 KO's in next 17 years (in 34 fights). Pernell Whitaker did better and he's noth known as a hard hitter.

But I won't call Floyd a runner. No. He's just featherfisted, especially at 147-154 where he is 15-0 (3 KOs).

 

He took zero risks against a bum. SRL would have brutalized Berto.

 

Because getting knocked out the way Pac did against Torrecampo, Singsurat and Juan Marquez who ko'd him for 3-4 minutes is considered honorable to the unintelligent.

Ironically, this was the guy that Floyd was compared to the most for the first 7-8 years of his career.

WHen he fought between 130-140 lbs, he carried a good KO percentage and was more offensively driven in those divisions.

By the time he moved up to 147 lbs, he was nearing his 30's and decided at that juncture in his career to employ a more defensive oriented style to ensure he didn't take too much punishment against naturally larger guys and to also minimize the risk of him losing.

I think where people look down on him is the idea that he's been fighting this way his whole career which absolutely isn't the case. He was never a one punch knockout artist in the lighter weights so it'd be foolish to think he'd be some kind of action packed fighter as he campaigns 4 and 5 weight divisions north of where he originally started. But at the lighter weights, he was the complete package as far as offense, defense and ring generalship goes. A H2H nightmare for pretty much anyone from SFW to JWW in the history of this sport.

At 130, he's widely considered the best ever in that division, he was an offensive virtuoso who was regularly compared to Ray Leonard. In that division, he went 27-0 with 20 knockouts.

 

Because he ran from fighting The Special One and King Khan and fought Berto. :-(

Level of competition and ring demeanor is why Floyd and SRL are viewed so differently. Floyd is and has always been a very defensive and overly cautious type of boxer.

 

Oh yea, he took risks, but the easiest way out. Never was and never will be the people's champ. How can you have a poll asking the people to choose who they want you to fight, and then fight someone they never chose? And the funny thing was, choosing Maidana instead of Khan almost came back and bite Floyd in the ass!
