P4P can sometimes be a popularity contest, who has the most buzz at the time which leads to bigger paydays. Martinez was asked what was more important to him, unifying MW belts and being recognized as a dominant MW or being the P4P best, he said the latter. Which is code for "I want the cash and the fame." Boxers will be flip flopping divisions looking for good matchups, except HW's of course. I am ok with that, makes for entertaining fights, hype generates buzz which deters fighters from stinking up the joint just for a win by the skin of his teeth. This league idea that I hear from time to time sounds really boring to me.
Simple question for everybody who doesn't think Dawson is P4P top 10: Could you please name me 10 more deserving fighters? (let me guess, no responses or a bunch that list out Rigondeaux, Gamboa, or Mares)
Even if it was an official ranking, I think Dawson being on it wouldn't be a bad thing. I thought he put on a great performance against Hopkins, he has skills. Pascal and Hopkins will give a lot of guys fits and the only reason they aren't on any lists is because when the dust settled Dawson came out on top.
I actually agree with the current top 10 P4P, maybe no the positions they are in though, they just have been more consistent then Dawson. I'm a huge Dawson fan, he's probably top 15 but he needs another big win, then he'll replace Vitali on the list. I think he'll beat Ward when they fight.
