Cotto still hits hard because he has great technique. The shot that caused the damage to Geale was clean as you like and - more to the point - Geale didn't see it coming at all. Was a great shot and says more about Cotto's impeccable timing than his power

Timing and speed and better overall body movement to put him into the best positions to land good shots. Boxing is from the feet up. Cotto's feet have improved dramatically. There's your answer.

Because a Light Heavyweight couldn't truly knock out Chavez. I don't know if you've noticed or not but Chavez has a really good chin. Geale doesn't

Sorry for the late response guys. Look, I really hope he is clean. I really do. In today's era there are so many athletes on $hit, especially guys in their 30's and beyond when testosterone begins to drop. We all know that power is the last thing to go, but it should not be increasing. Yes, Cotto was always a very good puncher but he was never Mike Tyson in any division he was in. He was a very good puncher with very good boxing skills. I acknowledge the possibilty that his seemingly increased power is a byproduct of improved technique as others have suggested. I just have a gut feeling that it could be a combination of that and some kind of PED. I really want to give him the benfit of the doubt and I am a Cotto fan. I just know the state of sports right now and whenever you have a lot of money to be made and a short window to do so, people get desperate. If a really good dude like Mosley would take something illegal, anything is possible.

Because Cotto used to drain himself for fights. Now he doesn't. Roach got him more aggressive and in better shape. Having physically debilitated opponents doesn't hurt either.

(yeah the catchweight was there for a reason)

When GGG beats and knocks out Andre Ward, all trolls who always say GGG ducks him will say Ward was a bum :hi:

Draining himself? Cotto has been fighting at 154/155 since he fought Yuri Foreman exactly 5 years ago! Was he hitting this hard back then? Nope. I'm willing to allow the Roach factor to compensate for the natural deterioration of punching power past the age of 30, but how do you explain the INCREASE of punching power beyond that?
