I'm in a non major city in Queensland Australia, population 80 000. Statistics include some other towns and a city within 100km's or so. We've been doing well so far. First case was March 13 and we are only at 8 now. 6 are in my city. Australia's density or lack thereof is helping quite a bit i reckon. Fingers crossed it doesn't run rampant in the near future. I thought a week ago we'd be on stage 4 by now but the state has flattened the curve a bit apparently. I am one of a small team that supplies gear for railway track upgrades and maintenance i.e. lengths of rail line, crossings, switches, masts and the thousands of smaller things that go with them i.e. weld kits, nuts, bolts etc. Where i reside we have a team of 5 so that side of things is extremely good given the current crisis. We are also a small way outside my city (15km) and a smaller town in between. We are obviously essential workers. I am hands on so cannot work from home. I'm more than happy to be going to work and having a stable job. Our biggest risk is transport companies delivering many times daily and we've been finessing that side of things (as have they) so there is a bit less closeness and swapping over of things like paperwork/scanners to sign, vehicle keys to be handed over and locked away whilst unloading then given back, breathalyzing and the like. My worries are my sister in Brisbane (she's 44 and beat cancer 8 or so years ago and has decreased immunity) and mom who is early 70's. Like McGrain and his dad i have had to really work hard to get mom in the swing of things as she just loves that daily shop. The last week there's been so much COVID on tv and she has seen enough of the various stories and individual heartbreaks to now get her head around things. Her sister died a week and a bit ago and after mom and her relatives here organised a mini van to all go down together (700km and down near Brisbane which is where most infections are) they bailed the afternoon before in what was the only real decision that could be made. Severe restrictions for funeral numbers actually came in at midnight the day of the funeral. Sis is being quite careful. In the big scheme of things i am travelling pretty good but things can change at any time of course. Watching Season 2-3 of The Walking Dead and Season 2 of The Shield as well as looking in here quite a bit. While i am still working i have extra time around it due to restrictions/common sense and the like. Can still actually play golf in 2's and am going for a whack later this arve. I hope everyone stays safe and well.
Still doing well here, haven't left the house in two weeks and totally fine with that. I often envision myself in the scene from The Great Escape where they throw the P.O.W.'s in "The Cooler" for 30 days and they come out all disheveled and gaunt. I probably wouldn't wanna leave. I kid, but doing fine here as is the family.
Seems a bit more relaxed in Qld JT. Down here in Victoria we can’t play golf or go fishing at all (even throwing a line in the bay or river alone is a no no). The police pulled me up driving to work the other day just to check if I had a legit reason to be out and about. I work in health care so had a legit reason obviously but at work we are having our temperature checked before we are allowed to start and the facility has been in full lock down for nearly 3 weeks now so no one apart from us staff are going in or out. No coronavirus cases at work thus far thank God as we have a lot of old, ill and frail residents who this illness would decimate from what we’ve seen. Other than that I’m bored shitless without any AFL or pubs and I can’t visit my oldies as they’re in the sticks and travel is restricted. The guys on here are keeping me entertained along with Netflix, YouTube and Pornhub. Stay safe everyone.
We can still fish within reason. We were level with you guys on the graph until nearly a week ago when you slipped above us. I hope your center stays virus free, jeez mate. I have an Essential worker letter in case i get pulled over but it's certainly not to that stage here yet and with any luck won't get there. I should have said i've been hitting youtube, besides boxing quite a bit of old cricket.
YouTube is a life saver. Boxing, AFL and Cricket have been my staples. Just watched highlights of the 1974/5 Ashes series. Watching Lillee and Thommo ripping into the Poms was fantastic. I’ll eat my hat if anyone bowled quicker than Thomson that series. Terrifying pace!
Thomson was the quickest ever imo and hit 100mph many a time imo. He bowled just as quick the next season here against the West Indies if you ever see some footage. It's just as scary. After colliding with Alan Turner and hurting his shoulder he was only ever as quick on rare occasions.
