How is Floyd still listed as the 154-lb WBA/WBC champion? I thought he retired from the sport of boxing?

How can someone retired from boxing still remain champ?

Wouldn’t the commissions want active fighters to fight for belts?

    Please only serious responses.

Why are you surprised like that's not possible. If Floyd can do illegal IV of 14x over the limit at home with USADA / NSAC saying he did nothing wrong than anything is possible.

Floyd is the WBC champion emeritus at 147 and 154. That means he can back anytime and get a shot at the person who holds that belt. Even if he is 100 years old.

Ward was WBA "super champion" at super middleweight for additional two years after the win over Rodriguez while not defending that belt or even fight in that weight class.

He had to give back that belt by his own ... the WBA didn't intend to strip him by the title .

So Mayweather may be WBA champ until the autumn of 2017.

As the WBA already beeing a complete joke, that is not a problem.

That’s fine that he’s a champion emeritus. If Floyd were to return, he should be able to get a shot at the person who holds that belt. However in this case the person who holds the belt is Floyd himself!

For all the criticism Canelo has been getting regarding the MW strap, where are those same people’s outrage over Floyd still holding the titles? Canelo has made the best of a ridiculous situation. We all know Canelo’s first choice was to fight Floyd in a rematch at 154.

If Floyd don’t wanna fight Canelo again, if Floyd wants to retire, then fine, good for him. But by choosing to retire and not fight Canelo or anyone else at 154, shouldn’t that involve him relinquishing the titles? I mean it’s bad enough that he did the catchweight vs Canelo and held those titles for 2 years while he fought at 147. Whatever, I can get over that, but for him to still hold those titles while officially retired?

In all seriousness guys, with all this talk of Canelo vs Smith at 154, wouldn’t it be appropriate for those 154-lb titles that Floyd has held to be on the line? If Floyd’s done, then Floyd’s done. If you really done Floyd then ride off into the sunset. I don’t understand how the commissions hasn’t forced Floyd to vacate those titles. What is going on here? I’m seriously not even hating on Floyd, I’m just trying to understand how this is allowed.

And for the record, I would love for Floyd to fight again and defend those 154-lb titles. But if he’s done, then how can he remain champion. To me, this is what DLH should be discussing with the commissions and Frank W. Canelo vs Liam Smith for even just one of those vacant titles would be fine (perhaps the WBC that Canelo held prior to fighting Floyd)? Wouldn’t that be a fair thing to do?

In regard to the Ward post above, what makes it even more ridiculous is that Floyd officially declared he was retired. With Ward, he just stopped fighting but never actually retired.

Not only that, but after fighting Berto, Floyd made a big deal about saying how it’s time for younger fighters to fight for his titles. He literally said he would relinquish the titles, he officially declared he was retired (unlike Ward). He hasn’t defend the 154-lb titles sine fighting Canelo in 2013. There’s every reason in the world for those titles to be vacated.

Vitali didn't still own the WBC belt like Floyd and was injured that 4 years he was out. Plus never officially retired at the time, and just got the right to challenge the beltholder when coming back.
    Big difference here.

Why would I post on the wbc and wba forums? If he retired, then he retired and should automatically have to relinquish his titles, right? It’s common practice to do so.

Either Floyd is running the sport or USADA / NSAC is that low and corrupted.
