How is Fury the "lineal champ" when he's a proven drug cheat?

lineal champion is voted on by people that matter in boxing. It is not a thing you can be stripped of. It is a consensus vote and all agree with the vote.

If people dont like it blame AJ and wilder for not getting their shizit to getter and fighting.
You have to beat the man to be the man. this was discussed three weeks ago.

Ah that straightens it all out then. It should be a simple matter to find out when this vote took place.

Just google how the lineal champ is determined? Thats what they do. Kind of like the press use to decide who was the national champion in football. Just like the heisman trophy the press vote on it. Same for boxing people that matter decide who is lineal champ.

Fury was popped for drugs and retired. He has no claim on it now.

As a huge Tyson Fury supporter, I'd still have to agree. Not in the drugs sense, because at the end of the day, he was not caught using any substance when he did the Impossible of beating Wlad Klitschko in Germany....

But in the sense that, yeah, be it that he had genuine reasons with mental health problems or not, he still didn't fight that rematch and he still didn't fight for a number of years since then, and in fact lived a lifestyle that may have now ruined him (remains to be seen).

I struggle to view him as a rightful lineal champ in the division now at all. I actually shudder a little bit when he mentions that he is just that.
Its clear to anyone with a bit of sense that the man who beat the man threw away that right.
And the man right now is Anthony Joshua, whether he is official lineal champ or not.

Now don't get it twisted that, if Tyson Fury can come totally fit as his prime/premium self, then he is the man to beat in the division in my opinion. I just think he has a lot to prove all over again, whilst Joshua has done more than enough to deserve a universal recognition as the main man in the heavyweight division (for now).

What am I missing? Fury tested positive for banned substance and then retired.

So if Lennox Lewis announces his return tomorrow is he the lineal champion? He didn't lose his belts in the ring, he retired.

If Lennox had comeback before a new lineal champ was determined then yes he would be, but he did not. Wlad was then lineal he lost it in the ring to Fury.

AJ and wilder were playing footsy and jacks instead of fighting. Now somebody has got to beat Fury to be the man.

The whole lineal thing has become a religion, it's a belief.
You either believe in it or you don't.

The funny thing though is that it's the non-believers who are most obsessed with it.

I think it's b/c AJ & his fans are on the outside with their noses pressed up against the glass looking in while his greatest rivals are contesting it.

Lineal heavyweight championship > Alphabet heavyweight championship.

Dempsey took a similar break on more than one occasion. (He also never fought Wills.) He was still regarded as the champ though.
