I'm not even a big Ward fan, but it's clear that people want to watch him if he's pulling 1.3m against Edwin Rodriguez who isn't a known name at all. The numbers speak for itself.
People want to pay for fights that are competitive, that's why Floyd/Maidana 1 did bad, and why Pac/Rios did far worse than Bradley. On paper Pac/rios is far more likely to be a war.

You mean you GGG fans want to forget him since GGG doesn't look liek a coward for calling out everyone from 154-168 and is willing to fight them all but Ward. Gotcha.

I mean seriously do you think the same people who watched him less than 2years ago quit watching boxing and forgot who the former p4p #2? Do you think that all the boxing fans are new fans like yourself, who just staretd watching in 2014?

she started watching boxing in around 2014ish, which is why she never heard of Ward since he was inactive that year.

I'm not even sure Ward-GGG does (at least significantly) more than the Lemieux fight, I mean what'd be the basis of this at this point? Ward has been extremely inactive and his numbers in the last fight were terrible.

At least Lemieux has that Canadian pull. Plus it can be marketed as an action fight which attracts the casual fan.

Most GGG fans wouldnt think this. It would be extremely easy to markey Ward/GGG, GGG already has a huge fan base and Ward was a former p4p #2. People have clearly both mroe PPVs when they thought the fight would be competitive, and Ward has a record of FAR more views than Lemieux, it's not even a competition.

Honestly I dont think DL or Ward hit 400k and I think the buys would be pretty similar. Honestly I will be surprised if either fight does 300k right now, thats about the upper ceiling. I do think Ward wants a much larger split than DL is getting though.

As an aside, Ward would get more plaudits and legacy if he beat a Undisputed, lineal, or even Unified 160lb guy moving up than he would just a titleholder.

nope no one would care, if it's Lemieux type guys he beats to unify, and if Canelo drops back to 154 after. If GGG beats Canelo than definitely but I doubt that fight happens, I see Canelo fighting 154 pounders for a couple more years.

Yeah, he has but that was before he went on a hiatus. I mean if it was THAT Ward I'd have no argument but right now... IDK, I kinda agree with Xellos, it'd be similar numbers except Lemieux is no risk and no need to move up and he demands less money.

Ishida might be GGG's 5th best opponent in his resume.

If Geale and Murray are GGG's A plus wins then Ishida is his B plus win..

No need to move up, demands less, but gets 0 credibility for the win. Xellos is GGG's biggest fan along with buffy so agreeing wtih him doesn't really say much . I mean honestly if GGG beat Ward he'd have an argument of being p4p #1, and he would go down in the history books it would be a better win than Floyd's win over Pac. I can't even think of a better win in the 15 years.

Really? Is that because you think Ward is so good or is it that GGG moving up and beating him would be SO impressive?

Ward is that good. His resume speaks for itself. GGG moving up is really not that impressive since like I said he has a pretty big build, GGG fans will make excuses how he would be a tiny SMW but this is clearly not the case. If you disagree what wins do you think were better? And ward would win either so GGG wouldn't get that win, and Ward's win over GGG wouldn't even be close to the best for the past 15 years.

GGG is like an inch shorter than Ward, and his body width might be even bigger.

The issue wasn't as much that he didn't pull in the ratings, it was with his purse and the purse he wanted for future fights. He got $2.5 million for the Rodriguez fight, and allegedly demanded more for other defences. HBO don't even pay Golovkin a million a fight.

To cover both fighter's purses they need a PPV event, and the numbers aren't there - for either.

Broner moving up from 135 to 147 to fight Maidana, is a far bigger jump and harder task than GGG going up 8 pounds. If Broner had the ***** to go up than GGG should too, Broner could have unified 135, but no one would haev gave a ****. What if Floyd stayed at 130, and Pac stayed at 126? Would they have had the recognition they had now? Thing is their competition down their was still a billion times better than what GGG is facing.
