How is it possible - Zuri Lawrence

Yeah, I always thought he should have iced a few guys by now.....

 

Good defensive fighter but he arm punches and never commits to power shots. Previous posters are correct in saying that he doesn't turn his shots over all that well, either.

I'm expecting Zuri Lawrence to get a KO win anyday now, he's a live dog in upsets. He ended Paolo Vidoz's American promotional contract and upset Jameel McCline, has a draw with Ray Austin, etc...basically he's one fight away from being a decent contender.

 

Yeah, and he just beat Sosnowski, so he shouldn't be ranked too bad by now. What I want to know is if he is retired or not. He hasn't fought since he beat Sosnowski in 2008, what's up with that? He should be capitalizing on this victory, not picking up ring rust.

 

It's pretty shocking that any fighter could go 43 fights(24 wins) and not have a single KO to there credit. It's even more shocking when the fighter is a 6'4 230-240 pound heavyweight.

Looking at his record now I never realized how long he's been around for. He made his pro debut in 1994 against Mo Harris. Wow.

 

He started out with no power or techinque, but has improved. Thing is, his little feature of being KOless gives him an easier time making fights. A heavy with spoiler skills like Zuri AND a knockout ratio to match would never get fights with guys like Brock, McCline or Sosnowski. Too dangerous.

So, he probably won't ever go for the kill. Someday, he may ice a guy with a single shot, maybe. But his little trick keeps him just off the danger radar to get the chance to spring an upset or two and make a payday.

exactly thats why ipitan got himself DQ'ed and that remains the only fight zuri won within the distance

 

I had a former opponent of Zuri Lawrence on my radio show a few weeks back and I asked him that same Quistion and he said Zuri actually has a good punch but did not think Zuri tries for a KO at all and his happy to land one good shot and back off and box....I think the only time Zuri really went all out for a KO was in the Hasim Rahman fight where he stunned Rahman and beat up his face pretty good in a close fight until he got stopped in the final round....I don't think he will ever get a career KO unless he fights someone who quits in the corner in between rounds.

 

If the only thing that made you famous was that you had no knockouts, why would you try to get a knockout and ruin that?

For a long time, it was just the natural way (although it doesn't help that he started his career immediately facing a number of strong chinned gatekeepers), but at this point I'm convinced that he's actually trying not to score a KO.

 

He sparred with Michael Grant in New Jersey and knocked him down. Grant was training for his fight against Lennox Lewis. Grant also sparred with Scott Ledoux for an ESPN FNF Segment and was dropped.

 

Did Zuri have any amtuer experience?
