Ideally he needs to unify to stay there.

I have him ranked #9.. His superb tech skills and dominance in the division got him there.. I would like to see him unify tho..

Man he should be a world wide entry for top 10 P4P.

People overlook him as they did Ricardo Lopez.......he is in a low weight class and he doesnt have any fan base outside the hardcore boxing fans.

I remember when Lopez fought Alvarez in their rematch and they got paid less than Christy Martin did for a **** defence of her title. Disgusting.

Other than that though Calderon hasnt got the blood and guts style that attracts alot of fight fans.

he destroyed cazares even though all the pundits were saying he's way too strong for him specially in the second fight when he came in like 140pounds on fight night

    140?

    :rofl

I picked Calderon instead 8 personally.

A lot of people had him by decision.

I have him in my top 10.

A natural 100 pounder who's fought his entire career at 105 without losing, while beating almost every up-and-coming contender in the Western hemisphere, and then moving up in weight to twice beat the consensus #1 fighter at 108. 12 consecutive defenses at 105, and outside the Barrera fight, he lost a total of 6 rounds. Also, even though he's never unified, I believe he's beaten 8 former and future beltholders, although I haven't looked recently to double-check that.

Head to head, he's probably one of the top 3 pure boxers out there on a P4P basis.

Yeah, he spent most of his career in a **** division, but that kind of domination, considering he's even tiny for a strawweight, puts him up there P4P. He's clearly faded at this point, but usually a fighter builds on P4P rating until they lose, and even though the results are closer, he's not going down until that happens.

Short answer to your question - he fights in the weakest weight class, and never faced a lot of the top guys because many of the top fighters at that low of a weight are in Asia.

I agree with many when i say he should unify..

I hated seeing a similar thing happen with small change purses and Ricardo Lopez in the late 90's , when Ricardo appeared on the Holyfield v Tyson show there were 6 men ahead of him on the card receiving million dollar purses when he was getting a mere 30,000 for defending his title for the 17th time..

The 6 were , Holyfield, Tyson, Moorer, Botha, Akinwande, Zolkin and not to mention Christy Martin who got more for her female bout......

    Its a disgrace..

    Yeah good point.

I'm not sure he'd even get that much if he steps up to fight guys like Donaire and Mijares. He might have to go all the way up to 122 or something to get a big purse, and those guys are gonna be way too big for him.

Could you imagine 5'0" Ivan Calderon vs 5'11" Celestino Caballero? :rofl

Donaire would kill Calderon. Just way too big and powerful. Calderon v Darchinyan might be fun to watch though - you know Calderon is getting KOed if he gets caught, but Darch telegraphs his punches so much and Calderon is so evasive that he might actually be able to avoid getting hit with any big punches all night.

I think Vic would eventually catch him. All of Donaire, Mijares, Montiel etc would stop him aswell.

I'd like to see him fight Solis though. If not then Sosa. I just want to see him unify.

as much as female boxing goes christy martin was the pound for pound numero 1 in her day...so if there was anybody deserving money wise i thkn it would be martin.

but still it's a strange state of affairs for a boxer who is a better puncher, boxer and technician than anyone on the whole card.

calderon gets dismissed prolly due to his low ko rate...i feel he can stun loads of fighters in his division but just doesnt have a mentality to swarm and get the finish...also being so small doesnt help.

he should of unified at mini then at light fly. he has no reason going up in wieght. due to the internet he will get his props...which i feel the boxing community is now turned into a internet based community.

if it wasnt for the internet do you think american fans would of been as stunned by khans renactment of "gone in 60 seconds".

calderon will get his ranking as long as he keeps fighting solid competition and grabbing belts...as that is what most promoters love=belts....keep winning and unifing belts and he will break serious money...but i wont ignore that he is at the lowest wieght of the scale to which no sports fan really knows of.
