I keep hearing this but where is it coming from. They both have looked very good in recent fights. Similar ages. I'd probably even guess Froch has been in more wars than kessler when you look at his whole career.
hes had a couple of big injury lay offs. He was brutalised by wards head butting and was suffering from double vision for a good while. He then turned in a few performances where he didnt look very sharp and got dumped on his arse by allen green. Hes only fought a handful of times since the froch fight and other than ward not at a high level but still got dropped against Green and didnt look that impressive to me hes there to be hit and his jab isnt the weapon it used to be some fighters wear out quicker than others Carl has looked after himself well since the Taylor fight doesnt take as many big shots as he used to and Kessler has been in some wars to. Calzaghe, Froch, Ward etc. Im not sure how much truth there is in it to be honest but i do think there are doubts over what stage Kessler is at in his career i think hes probably a bit past his best but still very dangerous. A bit likes kosta tyzu when he fought Hatton
Some big career-threatening injuries. Looking at his performances, its obvious he's slowed down quite a bit.
Kessler is definitely past his peak. He looked horrible against Bouadla and showed he no longer has any head movement. Then he damn near got KO1ed by Allan Green which might signal the beginning of the end for his iron chin. Froch on the other hand is coming off a career best performance and victory over Bute and looks prime. Froch makes the weight very easily, while Kessler has to cut a significant amount. Froch has also only had 30 fights to Kessler's 48. And Froch hasn't had the issues with cuts that Kessler has.
This kind of stuff only seems to be "obvious" to people when certain over-hyped fighters meet legitimate opponents.
Everyone ages/slows down at a different rate whether your a boxer or just the average guy on the street. There is no exact formula based on hard fights/age/injuries. While still very good he is clearly on the downside of his career.
kessler hasnt looked very good lately imo. big fan of his but he no longer throws that beauty of a 1-2 like he used to. he used to have a great uppercut and i havent seen that nearly as much. what i have seen is him looping his shots more, leaving himself wide open and his head movement has lessened noticably. hell he was looping his shots against froch the first time around if froch had just stepped on the gas he would have won the fight. he's had some very bad and unfortunate injuries. he was legit hurt against allan ****ing green who can hit but still. its allan green who knows how to not show up at the right time. if green can hurt him like that froch can to and if froch hurts him like that he'll finish him. i will say i disagree with the above post about weight. it was my understanding that kess really couldnt get up to the lhw limit for green and was actually around 170ish. so i doubt he has any trouble making 168. the guy is on the downslope of a great career. nothing wrong with that it happens to everyone. he's still a very talented and dangerous fighter but he's certainly off his peak.
Yes Kessler is past it, no reason to not expect that at age 34 and 45+ fights. 1. Horrible? Kessler has never been known for head movement defense, however he completely dismantled Bouadla with his precise jab. 2. Sure getting floored by Green is pretty bad, but he wasn't close to being stopped he was just slightly wobbled and fell to the canvas in a clinch. Kessler's punch resistance could be declining based off that, but I think that we need some clearer evidence. 3. I think that Froch has been on pretty much the same level since entering the Super six, he has just faced different fighters on different levels.. 4. Kessler is probably pretty worn at this stage, but Froch has also taken quite a lot of punishment in his career..
He's seemed to have more injuries as well. I think Froch is the fresher guy and just has more left in the tank. I think he will win a close UD against Kessler in a great fight.
Yeah. There is no formula to these things. These guys aren't robots who respond the same to every scenario.
Exactly, nearly everyone was picking Kessler to walk through Ward and KO him, before that fight not a single one of these people ever mentioned that Kessler was past it, carrying injuries etc.
