How is Margarito the recognized welterweight champion?

Thats what I didn't understand about the IBF. Margarito beats Cintron for the title and he has to immediately fight the mandatory? That's bull****. I blame the IBF for that as we could have had unification immediately after but they put the mandatory in the way.

 

You aint making sense when you said Margarito's win over Cotto(number one welterweight at the time) doesnt mean ****.atsch

 

Dumb**** . . . then Hatton doesn't deserve to be called linear Champ at 140 because there are 4 other guys who hold titles, in fact Hatton doen't have a belt now except the ring . . . why only Margarito.

At least by facts . . . Margarito lost 1 title and won 2. He didn't lost his second title he vacated it.

 

OK.. Margarito is a beast! He dismantled a fighter that most people considered to be one of the best pound for pound at the time. You gotta love a guy who blocks punches with his chin. Stalks a motha****a for 12 rounds and brutalizes a living legend! Good stuff!

However, until he PROVES he can do that against a guy who is just as big as him, much quicker, just as conditioned, just as active, and with a damn good chin... WHO HAS ALREADY BEATEN HIM RECENTLY, then how can he honestly be considered the BEST, hands down????

He's no.1 by virtue of beating Cotto.

If he picks up another major (IBF, WBO, WBC), and the other titlist don't, he's the champ.

By Ring standards, I think he has to be ranked #1-3, and beat another fighter ranked in the top 3, but Ring is definitely not the authority on this; they just happen to have the best ratings at the moment.

 

Agreed! I'm not singling out Margarito. He deserves credit for being a champ. But he is not in anyway "THEEE Welterweight Champ" as he is described.

I have no problem with that . . . he's just the top man at 147 now.

 

Personally I don't see how Cotto was ranked #1 for beating Judah and Mosley, because neither one were top WW when he beat them.
