You become the man by beating the man. If there is a man.

Floyd beat the man. Then retired. Cotto became the man. Margarito beat Cotto. Margarito is the man.

Cotto was the number 1 contender ... he didn't get promoted to champion once PBF retired .... he just stayed where he was.

I disagree. The champion failed to fight the number 1 contender, thus the number 1 contender becomes the champion. If Floyd had been forced to retire I would agree with you, but he chose to retire and not face his rival.

Listen I am all for Margarito facing Williams. I want Margarito to fight De la hoya and Mosley first for money purposes. He will probably face Clottey first and he will most likely win. Then I would like to see a Margarito/Williams showdown. :good

Yes I did know that I think about lightweight is getting hot since guys are coming up. Welterweight is not far behind though. FYI beating Cotto means something in the welterweight division. :D

NO one on HBO picked Cotto to win ... or other boxing websites ... the "chin" issue came up and for that alot of so called experts picked Margarito !!

Its not a marquee victory if Cotto loses his next fight ...

Cotto was the Las Vegas favorite 3/1 then the gap closed because Mexicans came in to town to bet on their boy Margarito. He was the favorite and Margarito wasnt. People kept on saying Cotto has the boxing skills to win him the fight and it didnt happen for the whole fight. By the way who did you pick in that fight???:D

Why did Williams get an immediate rematch with Quintana, When he didn't do the same for Margarito??

The IBF is not the reason that fight wasn't a unification bout. The IBF has specific language in their guidlines that state that unification bouts take priority over mandos. Translation, you can't be stipped by the IBF for fighting a unification bout. Margo vacated his belt at the request of his promoter. He and Cintron were told, by Arum, before their bout that the winner would have to vacate in order to fight Cotto. He did this because he didn't want to delay Clottey's title shot.

It's a Marquee victory regardless! I fully expected him to dispose of Cotto in the 10th. But I don't care if he beat King Kong. He has unfinished business.

    Question:

What if Floyd had lost to someone, then beat other people, and then ran to Oscar for a payday without avenging that loss????? What would people say about him?????

    Be fair.

Williams had a rematch clause in his contract to fight Quitnana. Margo did not have one and did not seek a rematch.

HE TRIED! Margarito was not interested. Don't try to turn this **** around. Paul wanted to fight him again, and still does.

I guess it's hard for some people to stomach the fact that their FEARLESS SAVAGE WARRIOR had no interest in getting revenge against a "tapdancing, slapboxing, beanpole" after he got whipped.

But life sure is funny isn't it!
