Yes, in fact that's his major strength. Against Bellew he felt he had to press the action and thus was the aggressor, which doesn't suit hium all that well. But against Gassiev, Glowacki, etc. he danced around on the balls of his feet for all 12 rounds. And bear in mind that while a number of MWs can do this, it's basically unheard of for a cruiser to do the same.
its another level, its outstanding Then Usyk Ko'd him Your nuts. Usyk has legs that make Canelo look like hes got none, its not a debate
The reason why I created this topic was not due to a comment about Canelo being FOTY, it was the topics regarding P4P and having seen a lot of posters who had Usyk high on the P4P rankings and particularly ahead of Canelo. And given the fact that when you look at the ESPN P4P rankings, Boxrec P4P Rankings, The Ring P4P rankings, etc they all consistently have Canelo in the Top 3 with Usyk barely in the Top 10. So this idea that it's so obvious that Usyk is higher than Canelo P4P simply does not match what more official P4P lists out there have. Given that, this topic is very appropriate as I'm trying to understand why so many posters here have Usyk ahead of Canelo P4P. I think I know why, but I want to give these posters a chance to explain themselves and what their reasoning is.
You think ?? Look at the fights Usyk has had and the quality of the opposition and the results ? Its domination, Canelo for me now is complete(very good) but he hasn't dominated, he's surrounded by controversy constantly
I'm just looking for real reasons as to why posters think Usyk should be higher. Like what makes him a better fighter.
I wouldn't mention boxrec p4p, it is computerized and their rankings are a joke. Do you honestly think Luis Nery, Miguel Berchelt, Callum Smith, and Eleider Alvarez are all better p4p than Mikey Garcia or Errol Spence? I guess not lol.
Considering KiwiMan just gave you an honest and thorough breakdown answering your thread topic the least you could do is acknowledge it. I would do the same but I suspect you're not seriously looking for an honest debate.
Yes I want to know why you think Usyk should be higher. I try to be unbiased too, which is why I'm giving Usyk fans this opportunity to explain what makes Usyk a better fighter, what he specifically does in the ring that makes him better than Canelo. Personally when I look at P4P I don't really factor in resume too much. I look at who the fighter is today and what he is capable of. What skills does he have, how have his last few performances been. Has he struggled, has he been knocked down, has he been hurt, has he been staggered, what kind of punches has he landed, and of course what level has his opposition been. So it's not "resume" that determines who is better P4P, if that were the case then Floyd Mayweather would still be the best P4P fighter in the world. That said, of course those experiences add up and for example many say that having been in there with Mayweather made Canelo a better fighter which I think there is a lot of truth to. But to me it's all about who you are as a fighter today. And the best evidence of that is your last fight. Now lets just compare Usyk's last fight with Canelo's last fight. Usyk did secure a knockout but he was in there with a guy who coming into the fight announced this would be his last fight and several times over the past few years hinted that he was done. Now Bellew is a solid fighter, but his last two wins have come against a guy with major mobility issues. Usyk was getting outboxed by Bellew for much of those first 6 rounds and even the rounds that Usyk won before the stoppage were very close. Now compared to Canelo, Canelo took on a much better opponent I think we can agree in GGG who was undefeated and wasn't getting outboxed in the first 6 rounds like Usyk was to Bellew. Canelo was clearly winning the fight vs GGG halfway through while Usyk was clearly losing halfway through. Now while we can't ignore the KO win by Usyk, Bellew looked to be gassing pretty bad after about round 6 and that pretty much led to the KO. If Bellew didn't gas like he did, I doubt Usyk would have been able to get that kind of KO. Also Bellew's gassing may have had to do with him cutting weight to make the Cruiserweight limit for the first time in while after moving up to HW to fight Haye. Frankly, Usyk did not look as good vs Bellew as Canelo did in the GGG rematch (certainly not over the first 6 rounds). He got the knockout, but that seemed to be mainly due to Bellew gassing. While Canelo was in there with GGG. And whether he beat GGG controversially or not, GGG did not gass or give Canelo the kind of KO opportunities that Bellew gave Usyk in the 8th round. So with that said, when I rank fighters P4P, it's not at all about "resume". It's about what kind of a fighter you are right now, and the best way to judge that is your last performance. Bottom line, despite Usyk getting a sensational KO, what Canelo did in the GGG rematch was better. Canelo GGG was fought at amuch higher level than Usyk Bellew. GGG is a better fighter than Bellew is at this stage and did not gas like Bellew did. And most importantly, Usyk appeared to lose about as many rounds clearly vs Bellew than Canelo lost vs GGG. (and he probably would have lost more if Bellew wouldn't have gassed) Further when you go back to earlier in the year the Breidis fight, that was an identical scorecard to the Canelo GGG rematch and I think most would agree that GGG is a much better fighter than Briedis is. Usyk is quoted after the Briedis fight as saying "Those are the most difficult rounds I've had in my career, and we will work on the improvement of my style". Now that doesn't sound like a guy that is well polished in his style like a Canelo does it? And you have to wonder if Usyk's style has improved since then when he was getting pretty well outboxed by Tony Bellew for most of the first 6 rounds before Bellew started to gas. Usyk to me doesn't look like a finished product, he looks like a guy still trying to figure out who he is. Canelo on the other hand has been in there with elite level talent and controversial wins or not has performed well every time he's fought at that level. Usyk didn't really perform all that well vs Tony Bellew until bellew gassed and the KO came. That is my main reasoning for why Usyk is not on Canelo's level. He looked better in his last 2 fights than Usyk looked in his last 3 vs a better fighter than the guy's Usyk has been fighting. (more specific responses to your other points to come . . .)
You jumped the gun. I am responding to his points in detail. Have a bit of patience. I will address any legitimate responses as always.
