How is Wilder able to get this far with bad technique and little to no boxing fundementals?

Yeah its obvious he carries a very powerful right hand that never sleeps. A positive for Wilder that he reinforced in the Ortiz fight was that even if you're beating him, even if he's hurt and almost out on his feet like he has been with his other fights, that right can still come out crisp like it did in the first round and put you on your ass.

The level of his opposition has been so poor.

the most impressive about wilder is his lack of embarrassment at the end of the fight having just passed off a 40something as a viable opponent for a world title defence. Another man would hang there head in shame or try and get out of the media's way before they embarrass him, escape back to the changing room like a man with manic inverted agoraphobia.

Not only was he not embarrassed but he was the complete opposite - Deontay was whooping for joy reminiscent of joe cowardzaghe in his heyday after he beat up another skilless no hoper. But this is a different level to joe's fakery - with joe if you watched him carefully you could see part of him knew he was being fake and he loathed that part of him, hence the descent into coke-dom and marital abuse. I dont think deontay KNOWS what hes doing.

whooping for joy after beating up a 40something....

You can get this far with bad skills, if you have:

    Punching power
    Speed
    Reflexes
    Heart
    Height/reach

Self belief and a helluva right hand.

    It’s unprecedented, it’s amazing, it’s happening.

Having 40 fights and your trickiest opponent being some OAP with flat feet also helps.

If he was that untalented he wouldn' be the champ, he does mostly depend on his ungodly power, great size, good footwork and as of last night great chin to carry him this far. Least skilled of the top 5 anyways, but more physical ability than anyone else by far

Reach, light on his feet and a fast hard right hand. Can only see Joshua beating him atm and possibly Fury if he does make it back with any of his old self still intact.

It's the era of the super HWs, small guys like Ortiz, Povetkin and even Parker will struggle to get past the reach. Who else is there right now who has the experience or physical attributes to compete with these big guys.

His power is something else.. Obviously.. I finally watched the fight with Ortiz last night and even with the knockdown in the 5th he was losing by a very considerable margin IMO.. His power is insane because other than that he all he has is athleticism and he waits for that one punch its min boggling to me.. But I guess at the HW division it seems to be enough at the moment.. Until he gets KTFO which I think its just a matter of time. But nothing but respect for him and he does have a strong mentality too which helps a lot.. does not panic when hurt.

His height and reach weren`t doing him much good as his much smaller opponent was outboxing him for most of the contest. lol

I know I will take some flack for it, but I also have to say luck is a factor with a guy like Deontay Wilder.

He loses many rounds to highly inferior opposition. Louis Ortiz was a 1:3 underdog yet managed to win 4 vs 5 rounds on the cards vs. Wilder. Wilder lost rounds against guys like Dhupaupas, Szpilka and Molina. Guys that - by ranking and pedigree - he should dominate in a one-sided fashion without losing more than maybe a round here or there.

Deontay loses so many rounds, fights are so close that sooner or later he will get knocked out by a guy way inferior to him. He is careless at times and bets he will sooner or later find his knockout punch. Which worked so far. Until it doesn't.

How you ask? Simple! Because of his technique.
