Haye should have watched Baer vs Carnera. That's what Corrie Sanders did.

He was also ranked in the top 5 for a number of years, and seen as a possible future champion.

He would have done better to watch Louis Carnera, or Louis Buddy Baer.

Louis did alot of headhunting against Carnera, actually - and it wasn't his in-fighting ability that helped him thrash Carnera, either.Louis fought from mid-range the entire fight and spent the vast majority of the fight trying to draw Carnera in.And Louis's body punching wasn't that significant, either

We disagree on our view of Wlad and how he could be be the utmost effective. That's not going to change and that's fine. To keep things in the spirit of the thread... would he hook of the jab against such a threat like Louis when he rarely does. I doubt it. Yes, and now he rarely rarely throws uppercut. I remember he did use them when a lumbering hurt Peter was wobbling all over the place in their second encounter. But that's almost irrelevant because he already had Peter regardless of throwing the uppercut at that point.

Yeah, not just the hook off the jab but the hook in general. I wonder how Steward would take to getting such a letter?

Not when he fought Carnera though and,I think you will find he was only rated in 1934.At the end of that year he lost to Hamas and ,drew with Levinsky, he lost all 3 of his fights in 35 to Retzlaff, Ford Smith[ ? ],and Braddock , and he was done as a contender.

Hooking against Louis might not be such a great idea:

I thought this was one of Carnera's best showings regardless of the result. He really stuck to that jab, but Louis was just too much for the early 1930's generation at that point, aside from Schmeling. It was a respectable effort by the big man though.

Carnera showed great heart, but then he allways did.

I thought his punching and balance were good in this fight also by his standards. Carnera was no joke from 1933 to 1935. Not as ponderous as he had been.

Louis stated Carnera had a fair jab but, no power, which makes me wonder how Primo scored 72 kos in 88 wins.:huh

Carnera landed a fair right hand in round 3 but other than that Louis made him miss with most of the big punches he threw. I'd say the majority of Carnera's KO's were the result of his imposing size and strength advantages along with many of his opponents not being there to win. Not all of those fighters were necessarily taking dives, they just had no clue on how to box.

Consider that prime Luis did have really an iron chin. Even Baer was unable to hurt him with his punches.
Primo ( he said that somebody drugged him after the first round) did better than many Luis opponents.
I would like to see the 4 round but it is missing

I think you read too much into this.

You could probably get Chris Byrd 72KOs in 88 wins if you matched him agaisnt enough sub par opponents.
