I'm making this thread because I'm curious to hear from some boxing ****ysts as to how or if the brown bomber could put an end to a "Prime" Tyson (I say prime because in my mind he wasn't really tested in his best years, just bum and old man killing for the most part..but let's not turn this into one of those threads)

I remember Joe Louis saying somewhere he hated to be crowded in the ring he hated swarmers. And honestly with Joe Louis' slow footwork this spells doom for him,he stood straight there like a statue and was there for you to hit could he keep Tyson off of him?

    Let's discuss :bbb

Too many points favoring Joe. He wins handily in my opinion.

One key advantage would be Louis' ability to throw lighting combinations. Tyson has never faced somebody like him. Tyson would be fighting for his life because Louis had that amazing ability to take full advantage of the smaller opening. One mistake, and it is over for Mike.

Yeah.... I can imagine Tyson swarming Joe... sort of.... and getting dismantled in the process.

Tyson trucks Louis. Like, Gravedigga bulldozing a pinto type sheet.

The heavy jab and the right hand mostly.
Much the same way Sonny Liston beats him.

Of course, others say Tyson would KO both Louis and Liston early.

It would be an awesome jab and combinations to back them up vs peek-a-boo and crazy power. My head says Louis would come out on top, my heart says Tyson might just land an atom bomb and end it early. I think the longer it goes on, the worse for Tyson. I don't see that bundle of energy standing up to Louis' methodical approach in the deep waters.

One advantage favoring both fights but more so Louis is that neither would be hard to find. Tyson would be coming st Louis and it would suite him fine.

Evander Holyfield backed Tyson up plenty of times by throwing combinations, Louis was pretty good at that thing.

Louis had the full arzenal, set up by a crushing jab.
I don't see how anyone can fail to see that he's got one of the best styles to beat prime Tyson.

Of course, I understand that some people would expect Tyson to catch him early with sheer power and speed of attack, but I don't understand how people think Louis has a "wrong style" for picking apart Tyson. He has almost the model assets, he's a boxer-puncher par excellence, with amazing accurate jab and combinations.

The only plausible way I would see if Tyson closed his eyes and fought with one hand.

Lets be real here Louis's chin would be shattered in round one,he himself admits he would never beat Marciano due to his swarming style, even a fat bum Gallento was able to floor him from fighting like someone who finished a keg of beer off....Tyson would simply pull a Marvis Frazier on him and k.o him under a minute if he forced a k.o,no other possible out come can come of this past one round, unless Tyson carried him or took his time, which even then I don't see Louis surviving one round, even Braddock floored Louis in the opening minute ,Tyson simply hits him with blinding speed and power, put those little gloves on Tyson and its not even going a minute.how anyone can think a slow footed wait and counter puncher like Louis remotely wins here is beyond me when theres plenty of Louis's flaws on video and his competiton against guys who couldn't even throw a jab right the majority of the time compared to Tyson is a joke. You simply cant stand directly in front of Tyson without elusive footwork and hope to win and that's exactly how Louis fought.

The overall post is a bit harsh. But yes, the red says it all. It would be a scintillating barnburner for however long it lasts.

It's funny how people talk about this "elusive footwork" needed to beat Tyson. Depends what you mean by elusive.
Douglas and Holyfield fought flat-footed against Tyson, just little steps back and side, basically waiting for Tyson to come in, then hitting and backing him up, and tying him up.

Joe Louis had good footwork most of the time. He moved, side stepped, could fight backing up. He didn't run or dance, but nor did Douglas in a whole 10 rounds of a$s-kicking he put on Tyson

You have no clue what you are saying..First douglas was 6'4 with an 83 inch reach and besides that was on his bicycle the entire time running around Tyson using jabs with great footwork..holyfield used side to side footwork and had a chin of granite anyway. Both were 220 and 230 pounds much physically stronger than Louis anyway, its a nonsense argument to think Louis's slow plodding baby steps will get away from Tyson.Even Tyson at his worst which was 1990 would crush Louis, just look what he did to huge frank Bruno who was 240 pounds of muscle, the small190 pound Louis would be physically incapable of beating Mike, unless Tyson came in the ring high and drunk.

Tyson aint finishing Louis like he did Marvis Frazier. Let's be realistic here. Louis is the greatest heavyweight of all time and I'm sure he'll find success offensively. It just won't be enough. But it's lasting more than 30 seconds.

Watch the fights again. Douglas wasn't on his bicycle at all. Douglas didn't even have a bicycle. Douglas was an ordinary, mostly flat-footed 230 pound heavyweight. He was no Ali.
He took small caluculated steps, and beat Tyson back most the time, or tied him.

Watch all of Joe Louis's fights, you'll see he moved and had footwork. Most of the time he didn't need to move much, he never wasted energy.
