How keen an eye do you have for a diamond in the rough?

So many of us got it wrong about Mijares didn't we??

I truly believed in Mark Breland being one of the ATG's and thought Hopkins was a mediocre fighter pretty much up until Trinidad.

The last one I picked was Donaire. Future P4P number 1 for me, but there's a great chance I'll end up with egg on my face again.

Not that I've been proven wrong yet, but I called Degale and Wilder massive future stars of the sport early on in their careers....but am a whole lot less confident now JG!!

My Dad told me he was convinced Sanchez's win over Gomez was a fluke.....oops!!

I saw Andre Ward for the first time when he was fighting Christopher Holt on TV, and saw him totally out-class & manhandle him....

Jose Benavidez jr. Lt. Welterweight w/ 12W, 11KO

Ive seen this guy fight a couple times, and he is a MONSTER! At 6ft tall, he's a physical freak of nature at Lt Welt! Surprisingly, there hasnt much coverage or love on him. When his record hits around 18-20, we'll see him in the limelight for sure. I can EASILY tell he falls in the A+ physical abilities pool, and at least a B in the technical abilities pool....

Jose Benavidez jr. is the biggest Diamond in the Rough (bluechipper) in boxing atm, IMO!
Easily will become a DOMINANT champion one day, prob matures up to Welterweight & possibly Lt.Mid as he grows and thickens

 

I think very few would have a sharp eye for that but can be correct at times.

Jeff Lacy - I thought he'd beat Taylor at the time before he fought Calzaghe - Wrong
Berto - After a first few stints at HBO, I knew if he was in there with someone who can take his shots and hurt him he will lose. - Correct
Andre Ward - I was sure this guy was gonna get sparked - Wrong
90% of the overhyped heavyweights - I knew they were just fat slobs gaining weight to compete with the Klits. - Correct
Pacquiao - When he stopped Barerra I knew he was going to be a force. How much a force I was unsure of. - Correct
Darchinyan - I knew he was good, but as good as he thought he was and someone with a better chin would beat him - Correct.

 

when i saw Pac shadowboxing at the lighter weights I knew he would be something special

When I was jet setting and traveling the world my travels led me to the Philippines in March of '91.

I was perusing the streets looking for a rumored dark domestic coffee to import on a massive scale. I am a connoisseur of sorts.

Strolling down these muddy, dirty streets..twirling my cane and occasionally tapping the brim of my top hat to a passer-by, my eye caught a young street vendor, little more than a boy.

I pulled my handkerchief out of the front pocket of my suit to wipe the condensation off of my monocle. Indeed! I exclaimed. Alas! The boy was selling cigarettes of a local nature.

I purchased a carton of off him and told him "Lad, I don't know what it is, but you've got it. Perhaps you should take up ventures of the pugilistic nature." I flipped him a tiny gold coin and walked off down the street twirling my cane.

That boy was none other than Emmanuel Dapidran Pacquiao

Donaire. Pretty much when I saw the guy fight for the first time I knew he had ATG potential. I still think David Lemieux can become a world beater, just needs some toughning up with world class sparring.

 

After seeing 2 early Jeremy Williams fights, I predicted he would be a dominant world champ.

Oops.

 

When I was down in Albany I saw a lot of Mike Tyson's early fights. I was live for the Trent Singleton, Donald Halpin and Hector Mercedes bouts. I knew he was something special.

 

I had hope in Khan as the future of the division and am right now putting my chips on Frankie Gomez.
