bradley's got it bad with the headbutts too and those are more dangerous. notice when floyd bends low, it puts him 100% our of harms way and consequently, it disrupts any offensive momentum by any opponent. then he goes to push you with the shoulder and elbow then sneak in a punch or two. he'll get away with that any time. imagine two floyd's each anticipating each others offense ducking low. how many times does the ref have to break it off whenever one overshoots? as for the elbows, it's not like he's striking with them but there are occasions as shown in the vids that they tend to follow through on to the face. for the most part floyd sticks it in the face of his opponents. may not be illegal but when you consider all these tactics, it gives floyd a lot of advantage.
It's obviously a dirty move, but all the greats of boxing had dirty moves. Ali routinely held behind the neck. Holyfield was a master head butter. Bernard Hopkins is one of the dirtiest fighters ever.
If Floyd sticks out his elbow and the opposition walks onto it that is not a foul. If he delivers the elbow towards his opponent to make contact then he is breaking the rules. Floyd does the first, it may be a bit dirty but it is not illegal.
Floyd does all this stuff so quickly and fluidly, that's why he get's away with it.. he get's down and blocks shots with elbows and uses them inside that it isn't noticed. To compare it to the Ortiz headbutt is a joke.
he does it quickly so much so that no one notices. but when you look at all these tactics combined, they are part of his game. not like with others where it stands out. like when floyd lands that straight right then immediately grabs the opponent tightly. or when he sticks that elbow to the face and when the opponent can't see below, he sneaks in a clean body shot. these are all fluid parts of his style. they don't stick out like with the others and that's what i'm trying to drive at.
Exactly, he does it all just as part of his style. The fluidity of it all makes it not be noticed. You pretty much have to watch replays to notice all the little slick moves he does.
intresting really becuase iv noticed the elbows before in floyd fights, maybe its just his style that makes them more prominent to the viewer but he does use the elbows to an effect.
Floyd definitely gets away his use of his forearm and elbow. Nothing I haven't seen before or anything that stands out in dirty fighting, but I would definitely bring it up if I were in the opposite corner, like Garcia did.
:good know your opponents well and be ready for anything.. with dipping low though, he shows you nothing but the back of the head. he does that to avoid punches but i've seen a lot of instances where he dips low way too early so that the opponent is automatically put off the offense. is there any rule on this. because he places his face near the floor and that literally is a place he's 100% not hittable.
Excessive ducking below your opponent's waist is illegal. I don't think I've seen a ref penalize for this though. On the other hand, I've seen cases where a guy hits the opponent when he is too low, or gives an illegal spot as the opening (Toney and Floyd do this a lot when they turn), and I rarely see refs penalize their opponents when they simply hit the only target they have.
Floyd sucker punched Ortiz and didn't even KOed him the Hatton way. ***** @topic he uses his elbows to protect himself and not to cut opponents.
